Dear everyone
Over this year I have been working on several in depth work in organisations coming to terms with power imbalances in their structure. With one organisation I am supporting Ukrainian and Russian colleagues to come to terms with what is happening in their countries and how to dialogue around it. It's an ongoing piece of work with no quick fixes.
In another organisation, I am resourcing staff, senior management and trustees with the skills of listening, self empathy, naming impact and receiving feedback to build resilience so everyone can participate in a journey towards racial justice and healing around the past and ongoing hurt of racism.
NVC offers a lot of skills to support the work of acknowledging power and there are some areas of NVC that are very important to be aware of to not undo the support it can bring. For example, if you emphasise 'All needs mattering' too much or at the time when someone with less power is expressing hurt, this is not going to be helpful.
This is the kind of ground we cover in the Intermediate session on Power and Privilege and how NVC can support conversations around it, over two Saturdays 5th and 12th November 10am -1pm UK time.
There are still a few places so get in touch if you want to cover this material.
- Self-Empathy
- Why are you here? Why is looking at systems, power, privilege important?
- Stepping into our micro connection to the bigger picture
- Othering and Centring
- How can we bring empathy to the 'shame spiral'
- How do domination systems as Marshall called them (eg white supremacy) affect you?
- What are the ‘feeling rules’ of domination systems?
- Challenging people

Building Restorative Systems - 10 week course
beginning Tuesday 17th January 2023
Conflict is an inevitable part of life.
Just thinking about it can send your heart rate soaring, create tension throughout your body, and hijack your ability to think calmly and logically… But what if you could transform that energy into something life-enriching?
That’s what you’ll learn in this eye-opening course with the Conflict Transformation Weave of NVC UK network.
During this course, you’ll learn about the importance of system building, including:
- The set-up and maintenance of a system
- How to harness the buy-in and energy of key people in a community
- Developing a mindset that embraces conflict
You will also practice skills needed to:
- Set up, support, and facilitate dialogue, mediations, and restorative circles
- Stay grounded and calm in the presence of intense pain and hurt, anger, and disappointment
- Guide people towards making agreements that will help restore broken relationships and much more.
If you’re intrigued by the thought of feeling confident when facing any kind of conflict – if you’d love to see a working restorative system that belongs to your community – or if you’d enjoy owning the skills you’d need to set up and implement a restorative system for your community, please join the CTW for this richly transformational series.
