Spring Is In the Air at Kilgus Farmstead!

After a mild winter with hardly any snow, it seems that spring is arriving earlier than ever this year! This means that our quieter "off-season" is coming to an end sooner than anticipated, and we're getting ready to add more outdoor chores into our daily routines. It's hard to believe, but we're already preparing for spring planting, gearing up for a new season of visitors on the farm, and before long, we'll start mowing the grass and tending the flower beds around our country store. We're ready for it, though! It will be a welcome sight to see color return to the farm through blooming tulips and budding trees.

Our animals also seem to be delighted by the early spring. Our Jersey cows are returning to the pasture to graze on delicious early spring grasses and our Berkshire hogs are happily soaking up lots of sunshine. Our Boer goat does are in full kidding mode and there are new baby goats all over!

Spring is always an exciting time on the farm, with its promise of abundant new life and warmer, sunshine-filled days ahead. We hope you'll visit soon to take a tour and see it for yourself!

New Kilgus Farmstead Website

We are happy to announce that we have a new and improved website! It's been a long time in the making and we're excited to finally share it with you. It's packed full of new content and photos, and we've updated to a slick responsive design so that you can navigate it easily from your mobile device. Whether you want to order our products or find them in a retail or restaurant location, book a tour, contact us with questions, or simply learn more about us, we think that you'll find it easier to do. We hope you'll check it out

Many thanks to Designs by Hines for the web development and Jankun Studio for many of the photos and video production. We couldn't have done this without you!

Farmstead Tours

We are now taking reservations for Spring Farmstead Tours!
Our tours include meeting all the types of animals that live on the farm, visiting the barn and the milking parlor, and learning about our creamery and milk-bottling while viewing the operation through the window in our country store. Tours last roughly an hour (or a little longer), cost $4 per person, and require a reservation.

To make a reservation, contact us at info@kilgusfarmstead.com. To learn more about our tours and view specific dates and times available, visit our new website

Spring Beef Sale

We are offering a discount on all quarters and halfs of beef for one more week! If you have freezer space to spare and an interest in stocking up on locally-raised, high-quality beef, this is your moment!

Our sale price is only $2 per pound hanging weight, plus the cost of processing (roughly an additional $1 per pound). For those who haven't purchased beef in bulk before, a quarter beef typically weighs approximately 125-135 pounds, and a half weighs between 250-270 pounds (a quarter will easily fit in a small 5 cubic-foot chest freezer and a half requires about 6 cubic feet of freezer space). You will have the opportunity to work with our processor, Chenoa Meat Locker, to customize your order.

Our spring sale ends in only one week, on March 31st. Don't miss this opportunity to fill your freezer with beef for all your spring and summer grilling needs -- contact us to learn more and place your order before it's gone!

Good Food Festival

Kilgus Farmstead just wrapped up yet another great appearance at the Good Food Festival in Chicago, where we’ve been showcasing our products for chefs and consumers alike for 6 years in a row.  This event is an incredible celebration of good local food that draws thousands of consumers and buyers.  We handed out samples of all our milk products and of our yummy pulled pork and goat to over 500 people on Saturday alone!
