Sorrenberg Vineyard was established in 1984. It is a 3 hectare vineyard at an elevation of 560 meters.
Although the vineyard is granitic it does have the advantage of being on the border where the granite meets the red mudstone, giving the soil greater water holding capacity and the wine structure.
The finesse and elegance of Sorrenberg wines can be attributed to the fact that it is one of the highest vineyards on granite soil in the Beechworth region. The varieties grown are Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Gamay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Merlot.
The blend consists of 30-40% Merlot and Cabernet Franc, a touch of Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Carmenere with the remaining Cabernet Sauvignon. A low crop level is important to ensure the fruit ripens and achieves maximum flavour. Half of this Cabernet Sauvignon was fermented for 2 weeks on skins with plunging of the cap 4 times a day. The remainder of this wine was fermented for 4 weeks on skins before pressing. Natural yeast is used throughout. The wine undergoes oak maturation for 24 months before final blending and bottling without filtration.
The bouquet of the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc Merlot displays dark berries and cherries. The medley of dark fruits carry on to the palate and combine with refined tannin and elegant acid creating a balanced and rounded mouthfeel with lingering flavours. Although this wine is youthful, it is drinking well and will continue to intergrate and benefit with age.
The cellaring potential of this wine is at least 12 years. Barry Morey, Sorrenberg
Singlefile Philip Adrian Cabernet Sauvignon
The continental cool climate sub-region of Frankland River sits within the north west corner of the Great Southern wine region (its latitude 34°39’S). The Riversdale vineyard, planted in 1997 on deep gravel over clay soils, on a north-south orientation, is located 7kms north west of the Frankland River township.
The Philip Adrian is Singlefile’s flagship red wine where every measure is taken to ensure only the best fruit and barrels are selected.
The wine is 100% cabernet sauvignon (Houghton clones), the fruit picked and sorted on 29th March 2012. It was cold soaked in a small fermenter for ten days before undergoing an extended and gentle maceration. Sixty percent of the wine was matured in new Bordeaux oak barriques. The balance went to one year old (30%) and two year old (10%) Bordeaux barriques for fifteen months. The wine was then bottle aged for a further twelve months before release. Singlefile Wines
From the Riversdale Vineyard, matured in high quality cedary French oak. A remarkable fusion of intense varietal character, and an almost airy, open-weave texture and structure courtesy of sensitive winemaking extracting just enough fine-grained tannins to provide a complete wine. 96 Points James Halliday, Wine Companion
The wine is 100% cabernet sauvignon (Houghton clones), the fruit picked and sorted in April 2013. It was cold soaked in a small fermenter for six weeks before undergoing an extended and gentle maceration. Sixty percent of the wine was matured in new Bordeaux oak barriques for seventeen months. The balance went to one year old (30%) and two year old (10%) Bordeaux barriques (for the same period). The wine was then bottle aged for a further twelve months before release. Singlefile Wines
Singlefile's flagship, made in small quantities (170 dozen) in exceptional vintages. Given a nail biting 6-week cold soak before fermentation commenced, matured in French barriques (60% new) for 17 months. The brocaded, sumptuous palate has royal purple and black fruits, layers of almost luscious tannins and high quality oak. 98 Points James Halliday, Wine Companion
