NOVEMBER 2017

Happy Thanksgiving!

With Gratitude

We are thankful to you, the Project GUTS extended "family", for your efforts to make the integration of Computer Science in Science a reality for all students!  Here are some updated statistics from the Teachers with GUTS and StarLogo Nova teams:

  • TeacherswithGUTS.org has 800 members!!!  We've had 53,399 visits, 7,656 logins from the home page, and 210 resource downloads over the past year (we officially launched on April 14, 2017).
  • StarLogo Nova now has over 500,000 unique projects and 85,000+ user accounts!  We are planning a celebration when we reach 100,000 user accounts!

Community Mapping Project

It's time to update our Teachers with GUTS community map and we need to your input!!!  Instead of a donation on this #givingTuesday, we are asking you to please complete your TeacherswithGUTS.org profile (click on "My Pages->My Profile" then click on "Update Profile" under your image, complete the entire form, and hit Save at the bottom of the form).  You'll be entered in a drawing for a new StarLogo Nova 2.0 version of the Project GUTS CS in Science curriculum printed in full-color (~$100 value).  We'll randomly select 20 from the pool of completed profiles on December 8th.

New "Hour of Code" Data Science module

Project GUTS, in collaboration with the MIT AppInventor team and University of Massachusetts Lowell, have developed a Data Science activity for this year's Hour of Code.  It's geared towards students in 6th grade and older and features crowd-sourced data collection through the Pop Culture app (on an Android phone) and data analysis in iSENSE.  The full lesson plan with links to the app and analysis page is available here

Please give it a try with your students and send feedback to ialee@mit.edu.
