April 2020

We at Project GUTS hope that everyone is staying healthy, active, and away from one another.

Many of the previously announced professional development opportunities for the upcoming summer are transitioning to virtual workshops.  Please consider signing up for one of these or sharing this opportunity with educators who are interested in learning and integrating CS skills into their instruction.

Project GUTS COVID-19 Modeling Challenge

As we enter further into this global pandemic, students and educators may find it empowering to learn about the nature of this disease and the important roles that computational modeling have on policy making decision.  We would again like to share the COVID-19 modeling challenge that we have adapted from the Project GUTS epidemic model.

The COVID-19 modeling challenge will teach basic StarLogo Nova skills in the context of creating a model of an epidemic and then customizing your model to reflect how the Coronavirus spreads. Students will then use this model to add and study the impact of different strategies for containing COVID-19’s spread.
