Fall 2019
Happy Thanksgiving!

It's that festive time of year and we've got a lot cooking at Project GUTS.

Reinvigorating the GUTS Online Community

We are excited to announce that a team of Project GUTS facilitators will be managing and supporting the community online!  The team consists of three experienced GUTS facilitators and teachers: Andrew Wellinghoff of Milwaukee Public Schools, Su Gibbs of Santa Fe and Project GUTS, and Miriam Niebla of Broward County Public Schools will be at the helm of the online community keeping you in to loop on new resources, tools, events, etc. and communicating with you.

In an effort to make the Teachers with GUTS online space more useful, we are seeking constructive feedback from the GUTS online community.  Your thoughts and ideas are essential for building an online community that best supports existing and new Project GUTS educators.  Please share your thoughts with us here.

CS Education Week & Hour of Code
(December 9th - 15th)

Hour of Code takes place each year during the Computer Science Education Week; however, you can host an Hour of Code event all year-round.  The Hour of Code started as idea to demystify "coding" and broaden participation in the field of computer science.

For the 2019 CS Education Week, we would encourage you to host an Hour of Code event using a StarLogo Nova activity created by the Project GUTS team.  Most students know the game of rock paper scissors and this activity plays the game in a more structured way, to introduce concepts of random movement, collisions, breeds, and traits.  The StarLogo Nova model, Rock Paper Scissors, can be easily built by students with basic knowledge of the program.  Find lesson resources for teaching, coding, and playing Rock, Paper, Scissors here.

Upcoming Webinar

This month's webinar will focus on (1) updates to and recommendations for improving the Teachers with GUTS online space followed by a (2) drop-in session to practice some StarLogo Nova decoding challenges and to discuss strategies and challenges regarding classroom implementation of Module 1 - Introduction to Modeling & Simulation.

This month's webinar will be held on Sunday, December 8th, at noon EST (9am PST)
The facilitators will be Andrew Wellinghoff and Su Gibbs
