Statement on the Aurora Farmers Fair parade.

By now I am sure that most of you have heard about the float that was in the Aurora Farmer's Fair parade. Unfortunately this event has depicted our town and county in a negative light.

I was contacted by WLWT and asked for a statement. This is my reply, "This offensive, out-of-touch float does not reflect the family-friendly values of our community. It is the consequence of the divisive, hateful campaign rhetoric we're seeing from the Donald Trump-Mike Pence Campaign. I do hope that Governor Pence does condemn this sort of behavior as soon as possible because it does not reflect Hoosier values. We deserve better."

I would also like to reiterate that this in no way has anything to do with the Lions Club of Aurora. I spoke with members of their organization the day of the parade and they were completely taken aback. The Aurora Lion's has always done a tremendous amount of good in our community and will continue to do so. They deserve our support.

I would like to state that though the First Amendment does guarantee the freedom of expression and political speech, those freedoms should be governed by common decency. Our civil discourse needs to return to civility.

Remember fellow Democrats, "when they go low, we go high"! It is imperative we get out the vote.
