How Palestinian women led successful non-violent resistance
Al Jazeera News, 9 Mar 2018
"The greatest predictor of a movement's decision to adopt non-violence is its ideology regarding the role of women. When a movement includes gender equality in its discourse, it dramatically increases the chances it will adopt non-violence and the likelihood it will succeed. Two Palestinian women shared with Al Jazeera their stories of how they led successful non-violent protests against the Israeli occupation during the First and Second Intifada."
12 Palestinian Women Worth Talking About This Women’s Day
Build Palestine, 8 Mar 2018
"While we agree that every day is Women’s Day, we’re still eager to take advantage of the occasion to celebrate a few women who deserve some extra frosting. We’ve curated a mashup of unapologetically defiant quotes, colorful hijabs, a variety of passports, and a few servings of sass. Here are 12 women from different industries changing the game, challenging the status quo, and adding a splash of inspiration to your morning coffee."
Palestinian women are defying Israel — even as Israel jails them
Green Left Weekly, 1 Mar 2018
"If we are serious about using International Women’s Day, held annually on March 8, to campaign for the freedom and equality of women and girls, then we should not ignore Palestinians. The violence and discrimination that women all over the world experience is worsened in Palestine by Israeli occupation and apartheid practices that affect all Palestinians — but women disproportionately. One example of the violence of Israel’s occupation is its treatment of women Palestinian prisoners. As International Women’s Day approaches, there are a number of women prisoners whose fates are uncertain at best."
And in case you missed it...
Highly educated Palestinian women struggle to find jobs
Al Jazeera News, 10 Mar 2018
"Women in Palestine are largely more educated than men. Thirteen percent hold university degrees, compared to nine percent of the male population. But despite their high level of education, many women struggle to find job opportunities."
