3 hours of electricity a day - Gaza becomes 'unlivable'
~ 2.2m people 'back to the Middle Ages' in electricity crisis [Democracy Now]
~ Children swim in raw sewage at Gaza beach [The Guardian]
~ Gaza conditions 'unlivable' 10 years into siege [Al Jazeera]
& ICYMI... Man in the middle [The Australian]
On 13 July 2017, the Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip had just 3 hours of electricity. How would you cope? How would you cook for the family? What about the meat and food in the fridge? How would you study or submit that report by deadline? A hot shower? How would you charge your phone or laptop? How does an x-ray or dialysis machine work without electricity? ...

Gaza on Verge of Collapse as Israel Sends 2.2M People "Back to Middle Ages" in Electricity Crisis
Democracy Now, 19 July 2017
'Israeli-imposed restrictions have limited electricity in Gaza to barely four hours a day, creating a humanitarian catastrophe for its 2 million residents. In 2012, the World Health Organisation warned that Gaza would be uninhabitable by 2020. The UN now says the area has already become unlivable, with living conditions in Gaza deteriorating faster than expected. We go directly to Gaza to speak with Raji Sourani, an award-winning human rights lawyer and director of the Palestinian Center for Human Rights in Gaza. We also speak with Tareq Baconi, author of the forthcoming book, Hamas Contained: The Rise & Pacification of Palestinian Resistance. He is a policy fellow at Al-Shabaka, The Palestinian Policy Network..'

'The worst it's been': children continue to swim as raw sewage floods Gaza beach
Peter Beaumont, The Guardian Australia, 31 July 2017
'For most of the 2 million people in this overcrowded strip of land – largely cut off from the outside world – the beach and sea are the only affordable form of recreation. The only option now is to swim and even fish in filthy water....“But this is the only place where you can come to escape the tedium of Gaza. And you get used to the smell. Last time we came was much worse than it is today,” [Tayeb] adds. “Then the water was completely green.”...'

Gaza conditions 'unlivable' 10 years into siege: UN
Al Jazeera, 12 July 2017
Report says threshold of 'unlivability' passed with decreasing electricity supply and 60 percent youth unemployment.
"People are not necessarily in a condition of starvation but they are in a critical situation," he said. "This is a man-made political situation that requires political action." is not sufficient enough for the international community to push for a relaxation of the blockade, but for a complete lifting of it...'

And in case you missed it...
The Gaza electricity crisis – FAQs, Gisha, 19 June 2017
Where does Gaza get its electricity? How much electricity does Gaza currently get? How much electricity does Gaza actually need? Why can’t Gaza produce its own electricity? What is the background on the decision of the PA and Israel to cut supply of electricity? Isn’t it the PA’s decision to cut supply? What does Israel have to do with it? What are the implications of reducing Gaza’s electricity supply? Is Israel’s obligated to supply Gaza with electricity? What are the obligations of other actors? The PA? Hamas? Egypt? The international community? What should Israel and other actors do? Why should Israel supply power to Gaza given that Hamas is its enemy and is using electricity for militant activity? How much electricity is being “taken underground” for Hamas tunnels? How can I help?
