Happy spring! I’m so appreciative of the feedback I’ve gotten on this newsletter. Many of you have reached out to tell me that you’ve watched a show or read a book that I recommended. I did receive a complaint (from my trainer) that everything I suggest involves just sitting around. I’ve included a fitness suggestion below, which you should feel free to ignore.
LAST SUMMER AT THE GOLDEN HOTEL is out two months from today! Publishers Weekly said: “Friedland brings laughs and nuance to the family foibles, and demonstrates a wide range in her convincing narration from the many points of view. Breezy and charming, this is great fun.” I’d be eternally grateful if you would consider pre-ordering two dozen copies of the book. Thank you!

P.S. Besides my book, I recommend the following:

What to Watch

Welcome to Kutsher’s. I loved this documentary about the rise and fall of one of the most iconic resorts in the Catskills. It was a great inspiration for my novel and has amazing interviews with the Kutsher family and lots of nostalgia.

Allen v. Farrow on HBO Max. I thought I knew the broad strokes of this story, but boy was I wrong. Holy sh*t! So insane. Watch, watch, watch.

What to Read

The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Pennar. Fascinating dual timeline story about a hidden apothecary for women seeking “treatments” for the misbehaving men in their lives. I know a lot about poison herbs now, so everyone should be very nice to me.
Too Good to be True by Carola Lovering. Prepare for a 48-hour reading binge. This super chilling and twisty book about marriage and deception is from one of my favorite authors.

What to Make

Modern Borscht (recipe courtesy of What Jew Wanna Eat). Note: Do not make while wearing a white t-shirt.

What to do with weights

Step 1: Dust them off
Step 2: Place in hands
Step 3: Curl until tired
Step 4: Put away for a year or use as bookends

What to Win

In keeping with the spirit of the Catskills, three winners will receive a 12-pack of potato latkes from world-famous Russ & Daughters, courtesy of Goldbelly.
