Interested in becoming a Board Member for the Capitol Hill BID? Our board represents a dynamic cross-section of Capitol Hill stakeholders, including merchants, tenants, property owners, cultural and nonprofit organizations and ex-officio representatives. 

As per the bylaws, the Elections Committee has met and will finalize their slate of nominees by Friday, January 27th, 2017. Anyone meeting the qualifications listed below wishing to be considered for a seat on the BID Board of Directors should contact Paul Pascal (, chair of the Elections Committee, and copy Patty Brosmer on the email as well ( no later than the above date. The new terms of office start in March 2017.

Qualifications & Term of Office: All members of the Board of Directors (other than Appointed Directors) shall be Members, or partners, officers, directors, trustees, agents or employees of Members (property owners or tenants).  Elected members serve 3 year terms and can be re-elected an unlimited number of times.  No Member may be elected to or may serve on the Board of Directors if they are delinquent by more than sixty (60) days in the payment of any financial obligation to the Corporation. 

Save the Date! The BID will host our 2017 Annual Membership Breakfast Meeting on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 8:00AM at Hill Center (921 Pennsylvania Avenue, SE). The meeting will include a breakfast buffet.

The Annual Meeting allows all BID Members (commercial property owners and tenants) to elect new members of the Board of Directors or reelect those whose terms have expired.

More information to follow, including when BID Members can expect to get their proxy ballots in the mail.


Last week, Councilmember Charles Allen was named the new Chair of the Council's Public Safety Committee. Below is an announcement from his team:

Councilmember Charles Allen (D-Ward 6) was named the new Chair of the Council’s Committee on Public Safety and the Judiciary beginning in 2017 with the start of the new Council Period on January 2.

Councilmember Allen stated, “I am thrilled to take the helm of this important committee. I have worked closely with the Committee on a range of issues over the last two years, and look forward to serving as Chair. There is a lot of work to do to ensure everyone in the District has a safe neighborhood and that we are a fair and just city. I care deeply about public safety and good government issues and am honored to serve the Council in this new role.”

The Committee will oversee the Metropolitan Police Department, the Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department, Office of the Attorney General, Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency, the Office of Unified Communications, the Board of Elections, and the Board of Ethics and Government Accountability, among other agencies and boards.

In addition to Public Safety, Councilmember Allen will also serve on the Committees on Education, Health, and Transportation & the Environment.

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) recently announced that nominations are open for the 2017 goDCgo Ambassador Awards. This new program is designed to recognize District of Columbia organizations that have demonstrated exceptional commitment to implementing commuter benefits and sustainable transportation programs for their employees.

“The goDCgo Ambassador Awards program is an opportunity to salute businesses in the District who are going above and beyond to assist employees’ in their commute, said Leif Dormsjo, DDOT Director. "Reducing single-occupancy vehicle use is key to helping us achieve the vision to make the District, in one generation, the healthiest, greenest and most livable city in the United States.”  

There are five nomination categories: DC Commuter Benefits Law All Star, Bike-Friendly Workplace, Carpool/Vanpool Award, Telework/Flex/Alternative Schedule Award and Most Innovative Commuter Benefits Program. 

All nominations must be received by Friday, February 3, 2017. Winners will be selected by a committee of transportation industry thought leaders and announced in March 2017.

Attention, foodies - DC Winter 2017 Restaurant Week is just about a month away! From January 30 through February 5, try a three-course lunch or (newly-added) brunch for $22 or a three-course dinner for $35. Presented by Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington, the most anticipated regional food-related promotion, Metropolitan Washington Restaurant Week, has 250 participating restaurants spread out all over the DMV. 

As usual, some amazing Hill restaurants are participating, so be sure to cross some fine Hill dining off your bucket list! 

Participating Capitol Hill restaurants include: AmbarArt and SoulBistro Cacao, and Charlie Palmer Steak.

Mr. Henry's is holding a special contest to celebrate fifty years on Capitol Hill! They are accepting submissions of favorite stories and memories of Henry's throughout the years, with a $250 gift card going to the grand prize winner, a $100 gift card to the runner-up, and $50 gift cards to honorable mentions.

  1. All submissions must, in some way, involve Mr. Henry’s.
  2. All contest submissions should be typed in English, running between 250 and 1000 words. Entries handwritten or outside this length will not be eligible. Mr. Henry’s is not responsible for lost, late, illegible, or incomplete entries, postage-due mail, or otherwise unreceived entries.
  3. By entering, entrant warrants that their entry is original nonfiction and has not been previously published.
  4. All submissions will become the property of Mr. Henry’s, with appropriate credit given in all use on our website, promotional material, or other use related to our establishment.
