Calling all artists on The Hill! The Capitol Hill Business Improvement District (BID) and the Capitol Hill Art League (CHAL) are collaborating on a competition to give artists in the Art League a unique opportunity to celebrate our community through creative talents. The competition, open to CHAL members, is to design all-weather banners that will be on display all around the Hill for nearly a year.

For complete guidelines and entry information for the contest, click here. The deadline for entries is November 15, 2016 and the winners will be announced on December 1, 2016. After the winners are selected, production will begin and the new banners will be hung around The Hill in mid-January for all to enjoy!

Artists may enter up to three (3) submissions and will pay a flat entry fee of $15 (total for all three entries). The BID will select up to four (4) winning entries and artists will receive $500 for the winning designs.

We're looking forward to showcasing our community's artistic talent and passion for Capitol Hill! Please contact Michelle Valeri at with any questions.

You'll follow in the footsteps of our Founding Fathers, starting at the Smithsonian Metro Stop and make your way across the National Mall and Capitol Hill, picking up clues and answering challenges along the way for fun prizes. There will be refreshments and special treats waiting for you at the after-party at DCanter!

All proceeds will benefit Wine to Water. For more information and to purchase tickets, click here!

Frame of Mine is celebrating the start of fall along with their anniversary with a special promotion. This year marks their 34th year on the Hill (wow!) and their 1st in their new location (545 8th St. SE). In celebration of this, they are offering a 35% off discount!

There is a catch. Only FIVE of these 35% discounts will be given out, and it will all be done online. So how can you be one of those lucky five? It's simple - through October 31, all current and new followers to Frame of Mine's three main social media sites (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) will be entered into a raffle for this special discount (up to three entries, one for each site).

One final catch - all entrants must live in the DC, Maryland or Virginia area.

So what are you waiting for? Starting following and you could win!

Capitol Hill BID's Marketing & Program Manager, Michelle Valeri, was recently appointed as Chairperson for the 2016-2017 Bike to Work Day Steering Committee.

The Bike To Work Day Steering Committee is comprised of state and local governments, and bicycling experts in the Greater Washington metropolitan area and works to plan the logistics for the regional Bike To Work Day event. The committee has already begun preparations for Bike to Work Day 2017, which will be held on Friday, May 19.

The League of American Bicyclists began Bike to Work Day as part of Bike Month in 1956. Over the years, Bike to Work Day has grown into a widespread event with countless bicyclists taking to the streets nationwide in an effort to get commuters to try bicycling to work as a healthy and safe alternative to driving alone. In the Metropolitan Washington region, Bike to Work Day has grown from a small group of a few hundred in 2001 to over 17,500 participants in 2016.
