Yo Mile in My Shoes!
This month, members of Team Higher Ground relished the opportunity to talk about Mile in My Shoes with fellow residents – while serving up hot dogs & salads. The result? Seven new Resident Members who have been running their buns off the last two weeks! Michael P, the focus of this month’s Resident Member profile, said after his first mile run with the group: “I’m 52 years old, but I feel like I just showed up to life.” We’ve also got a few speedsters on the team – three of our newest members ran timed miles near the six minute mark!

What else is new in Cycle 2? Eight Resident Members became MiMS Alumni Members, and five became Resident Mentors – meaning they move from mentee to mentor.  As Resident Mentor Brice stated this morning after ushering new resident Michael W to a new PR for longest run ever, "Being a Mentor is AWESOME!" The team also welcomed nearly a dozen new Run Mentors (aka volunteers).

While Team Higher Ground picks up the mileage, across town a whole new group is getting ready to lace up their sneaks for the first time. Mile in My Shoes is incredibly excited to launch a new team at YouthLink Nicollet Square!  Nicollet Square, located in South Minneapolis, houses 42 youth who have experienced homelessness or are exiting the foster care system.  Not only will this be our first team with young people, it will also be our first time running in the evening – group runs will be Tuesdays & Thursdays from 6-7pm.  We oriented seven young people (six females!) last night - look for updates from their first mile next week!
While there is always so much good news to report, this month we want give a special shout out to Resident Mentor Dave Baker, one of our original MiMS members. Dave is this month’s Still Kickin’ Hero. What the heck does that mean? Find out here!

Thank you all for your continued support to the Mile in My Shoes mission - we're changing lives & perceptions with every mile!
