Today I chanted with my Dad & Mom in the hospital. My Dad is in the ICU. He hasn't been speaking since he came off of sedation.
Today, after a few days of playing his favorite kirtan recordings, he began to sing. It was so joyful and healing!
If you are familiar with kirtan chanting, you know that sense of joy and being joined!
I have been keeping my own mantra practice to aid in his healing. That practice comes out of a Tantrik viewpoint which says the there are seeds of sound that represent the entire universe while being a unique aspect of the universe.
It is a microcosmic way of looking at sound. Bhakti chanting or kirtan is concerned with love and devotion. Tantra is concerned with energy. You feel and realize the energy of the invisible and the visible are part of your energy and you are part of it.
In my study with Russill Paul, he says that the letters of the Sanskrit alphabet are each a resting place for shakti, the power of the universe that births all things.
Sally Kempton explains, "Tantra believes that there is literally no particle of reality that isn't capable of revealing ecstasy and that everything that exists is full of light and awareness."
This Sunday, you can learn more about the Tantrik View including chanting mantras to lead up to a beautiful ritual the we will share honoring the goddess of wisdom, Saraswati.
