October 2020 Happenings for Hope House in Mexico

******    New School Teacher Begins Classes   *****
Here is our monthly (más o menos) newsletter to keep our friends and family updated on what is happening with Hope House Children's Relief (HHCR) and Hope House in Mexico. For those who don't know, HHCR is our not-for-profit 501(c)3 and all donations received are directed solely to Hope House (Casa Hogar Mi Esperanza en el Corazon) in Ixtlahacan de Los Membrillos, Jalisco, Mexico. The newsletter will provide updates on the boys - especially the new ones - a little insight into the staff, teams, vocational training, projects, and items of special interest.  If you know of someone that would be interested in HHCR/Hope House, Mexico updates, they can subscribe here.

A copy of last month's newsletter can be found here.  If you go to this website there is a link to all previous newsletters.
Boy's Activities
Hope House has a new boy that arrived. so there are now fifteen boys, including Ulises and Gerardo, both of whom are in the Transition House.. The new boys name is Raymundo and he is nine years old. We don't have a photo of him yet but will include it in the future.. The goal still remains  to increase to 25, after the pandemic passes. There are several new boys anticipated to arrive in the early part of next month. The process of bringing boys in is very slow.

Last month we introduced Jorge. A recent photo of him is below. How can you help but love this little guy!
Being boys, they some times get rambunctious. Jimy, in the photo below, keeps falling. But this time the fall was sufficient for him to have to wear a helmet. Someone, via Charles Baker, was kind enough to donate funds for the helmet. Jimy looks like he actually enjoys wearing it.
We love to get photos of some of the boys just being boys. Below is, from the left, Leo, Kevin and Diego. Seeing their happy faces is always rewarding and confirms part of why we continue to be involved in their lives and we know that we have a small part  in helping them have hope for the future.
The level of training in the public schools is barely adequate. The desire of the Administrative staff is not only to tutor the boys to help them in school, but take them to a level, or several levels, above what they are taught in the public schools. A new teacher, Caesar, has been hired to fill the role of teaching the boys in all subjects that are covered in the public schools and then provide additional training above that.  HHCR has been blessed to be able to provide the funds for the salary of the new teacher. This calls for a special "thank you" to our faithful donor family.
Below is a photo of Leo working at school as it is being taught during the pandemic. With fifteen boys there are a variety of subjects and grades that are being taught via the internet. This is an added burden for the Hope House staff to monitor each of the boys involved in online classes.
Training in horticulture and farming continue successfully. The photo below is Jose teaching Ulises the basics of planting seeds. The aquaponics area has a large variety of different vegetables in the ground level garden and in the raised garden. The next photo is of some of the plants they are growing. On the left is a tomato plant. There is a nice crop of tomatoes growing on them. On the right are chickpeas that also will bear products for the kitchen.
And, of course, the chickens continue to lay eggs, as seen in the photo below.
Hope House is currently seeking someone to teach carpentry in the workshop. Omar, one of the staff of Hope House, is teaching music and basic English. There is also a desire to have an English teacher who can take the boys beyond the basics.
Staff Training
In addition to instruction for the boys is training for the staff to remain competent and improve themselves. The administration is very interested in helping their staff improve themselves and for the staff  to desire to improve.  All of this is for the benefit of the boys, ensuring that they grow to be model citizens. To the staff the future of the boys is the most important issue for Hope House.

The caregivers, as a team, went through a long week for Quality Standard training to the Attention of Kids and Teens Social Welfare Establishment. Each of the caregivers received certifications for being involved in this intense training of Competency Standard. .
The two photos below show the staff during online training. The top photo is Annel and Cristina and the below them is of Pepe and Omar. The collage below these two photos is Day Three of the intense training.
The photo below is a screenshot of the material that was part of this training.
Flu Season

With everyone's minds focused on the current pandemic and the onset of the flu season, Hope House obviously needs to take all precautions possible. This includes flu shots. For overall safety this means vaccinations for both the boys and the staff. The photos below show Luis on the left receiving his shot and Omar on the right receiving his. When vaccines are available for Covid-19, the process will be repeated.
Welcome Donations
Emanuel Garcia, Eloy Barragan, and Jaime Gonzales showed their love for the boys by providing food for the kitchen as shown in the photo below.
Additionally, Bart and Lisa were very instrumental in showing their love for the boys by donating much needed pharmaceutical supplies. The photo below is of this welcome donation.
Financial Status
As Hope House continues to expand and improve facilities to provide for the boys, additional funds are always needed. Just remember, a donation doesn't just provide funds for a charitable organization, this is an investment in providing for the future for these boys. Your love and consideration for the boys is greatly appreciated.

HHCR is committed to provide financial support to meet budget requirements each month. At this point we have been blessed to provide a significant portion of the operations costs. The projects, however, come out of reserves. We are looking for donors that might be willing to replenish these reserves so that there are funds available for future maintenance and repairs as well as unanticipated emergencies that may arise.
Remember, HHCR has been approved by PayPal as a legitimate 501(c)3 charity. This makes HHCR part of the PayPal Giving Fund. The impact is that all donations made through the PayPal Giving Fund are free of any fees. And since HHCR operates without any management fees, every dollar donated through use of the PayPal Giving Fund button goes 100% to Hope House. Some of our donors have already made use of this opportunity to donate to HHCR.  Donations, including recurring donations can also be made via Clover Donations through our website, PayPal, bank transfer, or via check to our Laredo address.  At this time the PayPal Giving Fund only works for one-time donations. Recurring donations can be made through the regular PayPal link.
Sponsor a Child
Just to remind you that Hope House has a program available for donors who would enjoy sponsoring a particular boy.  In this program a specific boy would be assigned to you. More information on how this program works, and how you can be part of it can be obtained by contacting Karlee here.  This program is administrated through Shepherd's Heart Ministries, one of many partners supporting Hope House.

You too can make a difference.

Even the smallest donation helps a boy have the safety, security, and love of a home environment, plus the education to succeed in life.
