Albany Fires
On Friday 25 May 2018 firefighters battled more than 30 active fires in the City of Albany region, following a prescribed burn escaping the containment lines and dangerous winds fanned flames. Shire of Katanning’s Community Emergency Services Manager, Cindy Pearce and her bushfire volunteers left Katanning to provide bushfire assistance to the City of Albany in the Redmond area on early Friday morning.

Cindy Pearce has informed me that the timeline involved including the preparation on the Thursday, the early call out and departure at 1.00am, followed by the actual fire response on Friday 25 May 2018.  I understand that this involved in excess of 30 hours, which is a mighty effort.

On Monday 28 May 2018 I was also informed of the work of the local DFES team attending a recent call out and then clearing trees in the early hours of the morning, as well as the normal efforts of local St. Johns Ambulance crews including patient transfers.  Most citizens of the Shire are not aware of these efforts by our volunteers that are so essential for our community.

On behalf of the Shire of Katanning and community we express our sincere thank you and recognise the professionalism and dedication involved with these volunteers.

Gary Martin
Acting Chief Executive Officer

Crocheting or Board gaming- choose your battle
Thursdays
2.30pm-6.00pm

Join us on Thursdays to test your crocheting skill or game board play. We have a smorgasbord of wool or games to choose from. Play in a group or as a dual. You can even challenge yourself to some crocheting while you are here, we have patrons who are more than happy to share their crocheting skills. Or maybe try multi-tasking, crocheting and game board play in the same time- it’s your Thursday afternoon, you decide. If you have a game board you would like to challenge others to, please feel to bring that along too.
For great community atmosphere and fun, see you at the library on Thursdays.

Talking about: The Farmer's Wife

The Deniliquin Ute Muster had always been on Rebecca’s wish list, but with the farm and babies, she’d never managed to make it. Tonight, she decided to reclaim herself. After ten years being married to larrikin Charlie Lewis and living on her beloved property, Waters Meeting, Rebecca is confronted by a wife’s biggest fear, a mother’s worst nightmare and a farm business that’s bleeding to death. Can Rebecca find the inner strength she once had as a young jillaroo, to save everything she cherishes? Or is life about to teach her the hardest lesson: that sometimes you simply have to let go. This uplifting and insightful tale deals with the truth about love that the Cinderella stories never tell us. Rebecca’s journey is everywoman’s journey, and a resonant tale for our times.
