UK Recognized for Sustainability Efforts in Campus Transportation

UK was recognized in the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education's 2016 Sustainable Campus Index (SCI) for its sustainability efforts in transportation.

UK has worked in recent years to further campus sustainability by enhancing the alternative transportation experience.

Some examples of these efforts are the bicycle voucher program, in which 100 UK students and staff receive a $400 voucher to local bike shops in exchange for a commitment to not bring a car to campus that year. The program has seen massive success since its onset. Big Blue Cycles also provides bikes free of charge to select students who will not be bringing cars to campus.

UK's partnership with LexTran was also cited due to its success. The program allows anyone with a valid UK ID to ride for free; this has lead to over 1,000,000 rides thus far, with more to come following the program's renewal.

Take the UK Recycling Pledge!

Throughout the week of November 15th, the UK Recycling Program celebrated America Recycles Day by encouraging people to take the UK Recycling Pledge.  So far, over 175 people have taken the pledge!

The goal is to increase recycling participation on campus, and to continue encouraging the UK community to be engaged and informed about recycling. Everyone that takes the pledge will receive a UK Recycling t-shirt, and will be entered in a drawing for prizes. Winners will be announced on Dec. 6.

The pledge is simple:
