It's been a busy month since classes started. Here's what we've been up to:
Student interns handed out 1680 water bottles to first year students
Our Sustainability Interns had a blast at the We Are UK event during K Week!
The SSC had their fall retreat at Robinson Forest
They're now hearing proposals; meeting schedule and applications can be found here.
Wildcat Wheels provided bikes to the campus community
The Big Blue Cycles program provided 150 bikes to on-campus students.
UK Recycling Off to a Great Start
The tireless UK Recycling team got first year students thinking about recycling as soon as they arrived on campus – at their move in. They were able to recycle cardboard from move in's across campus and encourage on campus students to check out their new resources.
Later on during K Week, Recycling was able to introduce a low-waste event to campus. Students were able to sort waste into different bins for the landfill, recycling, and food waste. This was an impressive kick off event to showcase future efforts in food sustainability at UK.
For more information, check out the Recycling website.
Sustainability Scene Welcomes Two New Faces
UK is celebrating two new hires to improve sustainability efforts on our campus:
Lauren Moore is the new Sustainability Manager with UK Dining. She will be assisting in improving sustainable initiatives in the campus dining sphere. You can find more information on Lauren's efforts here.
Sandra Broadus is the first Alternative Transportation Coordinator for the University. The position, located in Parking and Transportation Services will be working to improve access to healthier and safer transportation options.
We're very excited to see how these positions affect change on our campus!
