Recycling Rates Are Up by 37%
|
|
|
The University of Kentucky increased the amount of material recycled on campus by 37% in 2017.
In 2016, UK recycled a total of 741 tons through the All-in-One recycling program. In 2017, we recycled a total of 1,015 tons. The increase is due to many reasons, including
- More people participated in the All-in-One program by recycling more cardboard, paper, plastic bottles and jugs, aluminum cans, steel cans and glass bottles
- More people actively engaged in recycling efforts at UK
- Recycling was made more convenient with more recycling containers available throughout campus
- Installation of four new recycling compactors on campus made it more convenient to collect and transport recyclable materials
The growth in recycling wasn't limited to our All-in-One program. Diversion from miscellaneous recycling and reuse programs also increased. These expanded recycling programs include the recycling of scrap metal, confidential paper, lightbulbs, batteries, electronic waste and more. The reuse programs include campus surplus and donations collected at Give and Go stations during move out.
UK Recycling would like to thank everyone that recycled in 2017, and encourage everyone to keep it going! Let’s see how much more we can recycle in 2018.
Visit the UK Recycling website for more information on how to recycle and what is recyclable through the All-in-One program.
