POAA Gives Meaning to the Motto: "In Business For Yourself, Not By Yourself."
FROM SOUP TO NUTS
On September 3, 2020, Campbell Soup Company’s CEO, Mark Clouse, gave a 3 minute interview on CNBC’s Closing Bell, a popular business news program that examines the myriad of factors driving different markets, and how investors react to the ups and downs during the most important hour of the stock trading day. Wall Street pundits (and several TeamPOAA members) gave the performance mixed marks. Despite being up by double digits again in FY20 Q4, the majority of CPB stock analysts rated the shares as a Sell or Hold, mostly likely due to the expectation that CPB will not be able to maintain enough of the pandemic-related spike in sales by remaining relevant to today’s consumers. Time will certainly tell whether or not the predictions come true, so stay tuned - and continue to play your part in PF’s DSD supply chain.
Interestingly, the relatively new CPB CEO Mark Clouse is a graduate of West Point military academy, just like the new SVP of Sales for Campbell Snacks, Toby Johnson, who also gave an interview last week to Progressive Grocer. SVP Johnson’s interview is especially instructive for struggling owners because her quotes in the article provide some insight about why PF is unfairly selling directly to consumers the exact same sku’s that it has been cutting from our DSD orders for nearly half a year, particularly 30oz Bulk varieties, as recently reported in our newsletters.
“During the pandemic, there’s been a change in pack size with people at home, where they may not need as many on-the-go sizes…. The growth of e-commerce and other things are going to continue to evolve very rapidly over the next three to six months.”
TeamPOAA urges all owners to pause for a moment tomorrow to reflect on the events of 9/11/2001, as well as to honor the victims and heroes of that tragic day.

TIP OF THE WEEK
Knowing a bit of history can help us understand the complexities of the present, and often can also serve as a foundation for our sense of self - e.g., as part of human civilization, a productive citizen of an exceptional nation, the proud owner of a small business, a highly skilled Sales Development Associates, an Independent Distributor Partner or any combination of whatever makes us unique.
The opinions and beliefs expressed in this newsletter are intended only to spark discussions about serious and ongoing business issues that impact every owner in PF’s distribution network. If you need or want legal advice, you must consult with your attorney.
