16 New AmeriCorps Members
Kuumba is excited to welcome 16 AmeriCorps members into the 1st-4th grade classrooms! Cutting the student to teacher ratio in half, each "AmeriCorps Student Enrichment Specialist" will be responsible for leading target small group activities and help with daily classroom management. We are extremely excited to see that their presence is already making a huge impact within the classrooms and hallways.
In this picture, AmeriCorps Student Enrichment Specialist, Mariah Carr, plans with 2nd grade teacher Ms Corcoran.
Everyone who enters the CEB must check in and sign in at the reception area.
Parents and staff members will be able to use their access cards to gain entrance to the lobby through the front door and through the door at P3.
Upon entering the lobby, parents will sign in at the reception area. Parents who have scheduled appointments will be admitted to the elevator bank once security confirms the appointment with the school.
DISMISSAL. Parents or other adults coming to the CEB to pick up a student must check in with security. If the person’s name is on the pick-up list provided by the school, the adult will be permitted access the elevator bank to sign out their child according to the school’s procedures.

School Legacy Project
The Kuumba village is excited to further embrace another one of our principles: Cooperative Economics (Ujamaa)
The School Legacy Project is a new program aimed at improving school culture, parent involvement, and empowers every family to leave a legacy behind at the school. This program will help fund much-needed supplies and services to students, parents, clubs, sports teams, teachers, and the PTA.
We ask that each parent donates $40/year (about $1/week) to leave a lasting impact on our school community. For a flyer with details, click the button below.
