16 New AmeriCorps Members

Kuumba is excited to welcome 16 AmeriCorps members into the 1st-4th grade classrooms!  Cutting the student to teacher ratio in half, each "AmeriCorps Student Enrichment Specialist" will be responsible for leading target small group activities and help with daily classroom management.  We are extremely excited to see that their presence is already making a huge impact within the classrooms and hallways.

In this picture, AmeriCorps Student Enrichment Specialist, Mariah Carr, plans with 2nd grade teacher Ms Corcoran.

School Legacy Project
The Kuumba village is excited to further embrace another one of our principles: Cooperative Economics (Ujamaa)

The School Legacy Project is a new program aimed at improving school culture, parent involvement, and empowers every family to leave a legacy behind at the school.  This program will help fund much-needed supplies and services to students, parents, clubs, sports teams, teachers, and the PTA.

We ask that each parent donates $40/year (about $1/week) to leave a lasting impact on our school community.  For a flyer with details, click the button below.

The Lower School Student Shoutout goes to Kindergartener Jermere Lott for being a kind young man who exhibits the habits of scholarship and is always pushing his thinking by asking great questions in class.  In this picture, Jermere has a sticker on his head as a reward for using his brain :)

The Upper School Student Shoutout goes to 5th grader Qaadair Parks, for outstanding overall academic growth and character development this year.  Quaadir is showing that he is ready to be Kuumba's finest!
