  • Emergency Treatment Cards need to be returned as soon as possible.  If there are any changes in contact persons or phone numbers, please be sure to notify the health services office The treatment cards are the only means of contact for the nurse in case of an emergency at school or to your child.
  • If your child has asthma, allergies to food or seizures, an action plan is required from your child's physician.
  • If you have not done so, please provide a physical exam for your child,  A physical exam is required  every two years by the Department of Health and the Delaware Department of Education.

Counselor's Corner

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you.  My name is Teri Riggs and I will be the new full-time school counselor at Kuumba Academy Charter School.  Having about 13 years of experience in a school environment, I am very excited for this to be my first year as a school counselor.  I truly know this is going to be a fun year filled with learning, growing and new adventures. As the Counselor, my involvement with the scholars will take place in numerous ways such as implementing school prevention programs/assemblies in character building, bullying prevention, healthy eating, drugs and alcohol awareness, and career education.  I will also facilitate group and individual sessions during non-instructional times, which will focus on many topics such as social skills, grief, coping skills, hygiene/life skills, anger management, building relationships and many more.

I really look forward to working with the scholars on a classroom level, complete necessary consultations, meet with parents, collaborate with teachers and staff, attend IEP meetings and parent/teacher conferences, and consult with community organizations that can benefit and meet the needs of all Kuumba scholars and families.  If there are any other services, you would like me to fulfill, I am more that happy to address them and assist in any area that is needed.

Teri Riggs, M.S
