StreetVelodrome

The StreetVelodrome is a sports area with a banked oval track for cycle racing, for both professionals and amateurs alike. Abbeycroft Leisure organised the event which included Suffolk County Council as an official partner. This event was an excellent way to interact with local businesses in Bury St Edmunds and encourage those to take part in cycling who may not already do so on a regular basis.

"The StreetVelodrome was a fantastic success, with over 650 locals riding on the StreetVelodrome over the weekend, including 267 school children cycling on the track on the Friday. It was a fantastic opportunity to engage both the local community and businesses in a unique sporting event."
AbbeyCroft Leisure

"I was delighted that the Our Bury St Edmunds Business Improvement District was able to work with the County Council and Abbeycroft Leisure to bring the Street Velodrome to our town centre and in fact make it the final event of our Festival of Sport which ran for a week. Our sports festival and the StreetVelodrome are all about encouraging residents and employees in the town to become more active and have a healthier lifestyle and these kind of activities contributed to Bury being declared the Most Active Town in Suffolk earlier this year"
Mark Cordell - Chief Executive Officer of Our Bury St Edmunds Business Improvement District

Bury Local Links Display Boards

We have information at Nowton Park and the Library on local walking and bus routes, car sharing and facts on active travel. The displays feature free promotional materials to take away, which include cycle maps for Bury St Edmunds.

The information provided can help organisations increase employee active travel to work. Helping to improve employees health and fitness, ease congestion in peak time traffic and free up customer car parking spaces, are just some of the things we aim to achieve.

If you think your organisation would benefit from our display boards and active travel advice and activities, contact us

Eastern Relief Road- Bury St Edmunds

"The Eastern Relief Road linking Skyliner Way and Sow Lane is progressing well. The scheme will improve the local cycle network, with new shared-use cycle facilities running throughout the mainline, into Rougham Industrial Estate and along Sow Lane, providing greater connectivity throughout the area. With three toucan crossings to be located near the new school, the scheme will offer a greater choice of sustainable transport modes to local employees and pupils.

The design of the surface water drainage systems (SUDS) which has proved challenging given the poor infiltration of the existing land. However, this has not had a significant impact and the scheme is still projected to finish on time (Summer 2017) and budget."
