ECIA President's Greeting
The last newsletter of 2016! We are at the end of the year and can evaluate everything that has been done. Which has been a lot. We have finalized our renewed identity, including the updated vision and mission and our new website and newsletter format. We had some great meetings, including a constructive meeting with the Spanish and Italian organisation. Not to forget about our meeting with IFI last November or the meeting with CFAI and AinB, our French institutional and Belgium members, in Brussels about legislation and regulation of the profession and actions toward Europe in this. And of course I am looking back at a very successful general assembly in Switzerland, with again a great compliment and big thank you to our VSAP.SA (VSI.ASAI), our Swiss member. And to end with, I would like to welcome our new Bulgarian observer member. I can’t mention everything, but at least I can share some highlights.
With this in mind we can only heading towards a great new and fresh 2017. A special year since we will celebrate our 25th birthday! A remarkable date; illustrating both the incredible work that has been done in this relatively short time (with a big thank you to the boards and presidents before me), as the still relatively young organisation we are.
Therefore I would like to announce a combined general assembly with a great birthday event! Program, invitations and exact dates will follow. Please save the dates:
General Assembly & 25th birthday event ECIA in ESTONIA 2017, September 7–10.
Events mainly at the 8th and 9th  – I am hoping I see you all there!

Merry Christmas!
Anja Dirks, ECIA President

ECIA GA 2016
The annual General Assembly of European Council of Interior Architects hosted by VSAP.SA took place 2545 meters above the sea level in Swiss Alpes Chäserrugg (by Herzog & De Meuron). GA re-elected Anja Dirks from Holland to continue her job as the president of ECIA. The boardmembers for the next period are: Marianne Daepp from Switzerland (treasurer), Elke Kaiser from Germany (secretary in general), Tüüne-Kristin Vaikla from Estonia (communication), Jan Geysen was re-elected as a vice-president and Teresa Casas from Spain as a new boardmember of ECIA.
The topic of ECIA Round Table 2016: Regulation – Hated or Loved? opened the different situation about the regulation of the title, different working fields, responsibility of interior projects and also regulation of building process through laws and acts by national governments and EU, but also in self-regulation in European member countries. Regulation constrains a right, creates or limits a duty, or allocates a responsibility. BDIA presented the regulation system or the profession in Germany. Significant data was collected about ongoing situation of regulations system by our national organizations: Austria, Belgium, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, Holland, Ireland, Italy, Norway and Switzerland and fresh educational member from Ireland.

Thomas Wachter, the president of VSAP.SA (VSI.ASAI) gave the welcoming dinner in his creative rural home. To sum it up on the last day the guests visited Kunsthochschule in Zyrich (ZHdK) – Tony Areal (by EM2N Architects) – which is located in a former industrial building of milkproducts and got a great overview with an outstanding Swiss design collection and innovative material archive. The participants enjoyed the well organized GA with hospitality of the hosts and refreshing collaboration between each other. Thank you for the great job and looking forward to meet you all at the next ECIA General Assembly in Estonia, Sept 2017.

IFI and ECIA board meeting

Greetings from Norway
Norway has just ended a four years long process of merging our three architectural associations, landscape architects (NLA), building architects (NAL) and interior architects (NIL). Sadly, after putting in a lot of hard work and economic resources, the outcome for “The Norwegian architects” was negative. But the Norwegian interior architect association NIL is optimistic: the three architect’s associations have as a result of this process a much better understanding of each other’s disciplines and we have agreed to continue with regular meetings to discuss interdisciplinary matters.
NIL also felt the need to freshen up and give our members a sense of ownership to the organisation. We invited our members to propose how we could improve as a pure interior architect organisation. We got a lot of good ideas, some we were already working on, which gave us a nice reassurance that we were going in the right direction, and some ideas will be a part of the new foundation for ”the new NIL”.
We wish all our colleges across Europe nice holidays and we are looking forward to continuing the good collaboration in 2017!
Terese Simonsen, President NIL
