Sharing the love at
Holly Hedge this February!

February is the month of love and what better way to celebrate Valentine's Day than launching our very own 'Plenty of Paws' appeal. With dating profiles for all our furry residents, and hearts galore hanging from every ceiling, we soon had everyone feeling loved up and matched up to their purrfect partners. Over the last month we have seen lots of Dogs & Cats find their forever homes from some of our older residents to the youngest, we have loved waving them off to start their new lives.
Of course our dedicated animal care team and volunteers show their love by working tirelessly to help those who need that extra TLC the most. Extra cuddles and company are just as important as daily walks and food and at Holly Hedge our main aim is to always make the animals who find themselves with us as comfortable as possible with the highest standard of welfare. Our volunteers and fundraisers show their love by standing outside in all weathers, helping at events and raising desperately needed funds to keep our Sanctuary alive.

So thank you to everyone who has helped us throughout February and all the year round, we really do count on you!

Happy Valentines xxx

Happy Ending Update!

Our patron Monty Halls, famous for presenting many of his wonderful BBC shows such as the Great Escape series, and his beautiful family paid us a surprise visit a couple of weeks ago and fell in love with one of our youngest residents, 10 week old Lab x Milly.

Monty originally came to Holly Hedge and found his best friend Reuben many years ago but after sadly losing Reuben to heart disease in 2016 they have taken time as a family to overcome this grief of losing their best friend before feeling ready to adopt again.

We were delighted to help Monty's family find their perfect match! As they have had a Labrador before and as they have a highly active and adventurous lifestyle we felt this would suit this fun, excitable puppy to use her energy as she gets older.

We are so pleased to hear that after just a few days, it feels like she has belonged to them forever, making herself well and truly at home. Now called Ivy this little lady has certainly landed on her paws and we are just delighted that once again Monty and his family have chosen us to be the charity to help them find their purrfect match.

Please check out Montys facebook page
https://www.facebook.com/TheOfficialMontyHalls/ for all his latest adventures! and of course for the occasional sneak peak of Ivy as she grows up... I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more of her!

DOG RESIDENT OF THE MONTH - DIESEL

HE'S STILL HERE :(

POOR DIESEL STILL HAS NO HOME TO CALL HIS OWN.
Sadly he has been at the kennels for almost a year and this lovable old boy is desperate to find his forever home. He is 11 years old and a joy to be around. He is absolutely fabulous and don’t let his size put you off as he is a gentle giant! He would be such an easy dog to own as he really just needs plenty of cuddles and a comfy bed to snooze in. He is great with kids, but due to his size could knock over smaller children, so we feel a home with adults or older children would be best, he would also prefer to live as an only dog. Please help find this beautiful dog the home he deserves.

If you would like to find out more about fostering or adopting Diesel please contact us.

CAT RESIDENTS OF THE MONTH - STRAWBERRY & NECTARINE

A Special Plea from Strawberry & Nectarine, (our longest stay cats).

Strawberry & Nectarine,

Together we’re a special team.
We were tiny frightened kittens
When we first came here,
And now we have
been waiting

Over one whole year,
Waiting for a cosy home

Where we will be adored,
And never have the feeling
That we have been ignored. We’re gaining trust and confidence

We’re making massive strides,
No longer do we run in fear
Or find somewhere to hide.
We’ve been here the longest now
It must be our turn soon,
If someone could reserve us
We’d be over the moon!

Here’s hoping & keeping our paws firmly crossed that some good fortune will  finally come our way.   xxxxx

Our aim at Holly Hedge is to find all the animals that we take into our care their fur-ever homes. Whilst they stay with us, you could help us to help them by becoming their Paw Pal.

URGENT APPEAL!
Please help us to build a new sluice room and replace our Whoopsie away machine!

Our current Whoopsie away machine for dog and cat waste is no longer compliant with today's health & Safety standards, becoming dangerous for the staff and volunteers to use and 2 weeks ago finally gave up for good. Over 15 years old, its not surprising! But with repair costs escalating we have been advised by the servicing engineers that the machine must now be replaced.

The machine itself is currently housed in a timber store that is also on the verge of collapse, and in addition to this we also struggle with no sluice room on site that is suitable for the cleaning of contaminated items such as dog beds, litter trays etc with staff currently standing in outside areas in all weathers with hand brushes and buckets of disinfectant (photos attached).

Our aim is to install and build a new timber housing area with the new Whoopsie away and sink units, essential to prevent disease. With our annual costs rising to over £600K a year we just don't have the funds to purchase the new equipment with every penny currently going to the animals who desperately need our help including veterinary care, so it is essential that we try and raise as much as possible to help us with this build. So to help, we have set up a special appeal through Just Giving  https://www.justgiving.com/campaigns/charity/hollyhedge/whoopsieaway
