Hey there fellow young adults,
My name is Jon Lundberg and I am a fellow parishioner at St. John’s. I am also a young adult. Like many of our generation I miss all the social activities and am looking forward to seeing you all at Bon Vie after church in the not too distant future.
I am writing today to ask that you remember St. John’s in your end of year planning, and make your commitment now to give in 2021. The church is still here and still doing good for our community. There is still support for those hurting, which is sadly an even greater number these days; from the pandemic to our BIPOC brothers and sisters fighting inequality and the poor being pushed further down. In addition to that the church also supports a working staff of clergy and support staff that do so much to nurture our souls through worship even if it is distant these days.
I know more than most of the hurt. I lost my job at the beginning of this mess and besides some temporary jobs I have been out of luck. Thankfully my wife can help with our shortfall. Even so, we have pledged. It helps that matching gifts have been offered: a St. John's household that wishes to remain anonymous will match any increases or new pledges up to $1,000 each!
And remember every bit counts, no matter how small. Jesus reminds us this with the passage in Mark with his admiration of the widow and her humble offering. He looked up and saw rich people putting their gifts into the treasury; he also saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins. He said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them."
We can make a difference and I hope you can help.
Yours in Christ,
Jon Lundberg and the Stewardship Committee
