Speakers, Authors, and More

Abby Hafer

Abby is an author, scientist, educator and public speaker.  Her book debunking Intelligent Design, The Not-So-Intelligent Designer—Why Evolution Explains the Human Body and Intelligent Design Does Not became a #1 bestseller on Amazon in the category of Theism.

Eugenie Scott

Eugenie is the former Executive Director of the National Center for Science Education and an internationally-known expert on the creationism and evolution controversy and science denialism, and is called upon by the press and other media to explain science to the general public.

Kavin Senapathy

Kavin is a writer for Forbes, Slate, and more covering science, health, medicine, and parenting. She is the co-author of “The Fear Babe:  Shattering Vani Hari’s Glass House,” a book discussing popular food misconceptions and why they proliferate and will be featured in the upcoming documentary film "Science Mom".

Seráh Blain and Evan Clark

Seráh Blain and Evan Clark have worked together for years while reporting the Humanist movement and being advocates for a number of social issues, co-hosting the Humanist Experience podcast.

Seráh is a mom, an activist, and a Humanist lobbyist with more than 20 years of political and nonprofit advocacy experience and served on the Board of Directors for the Secular Coalition for Arizona. She was the recipient of Foundation Beyond Belief’s Humanist Innovator of the Year Award in 2014.

Evan is a Humanist activist, facilitator, and entrepreneur with over 10 years experience leading and consulting values driven nonprofits, companies, and campaigns and has spoken nationally about Humanism and innovation. He also is the Chair of the Secular Student Alliance.

Steve Hill

Born in poverty on St. Louis' north side, Steve has acquired a lifetime of experience in what it's like to grow up in America as an African American male.
After serving in the US Marine Corps, working in the aerospace industry, and the California Department of Corrections, Steve now speaks for those no voice, lobbyist, or advocacy group.
We are thrilled to have Steve as this year's emcee.
California Freethought Day is more than just a festival that celebrates freethought, science, and the separation of church and state.

It's grown to a full weekend that includes these auxiliary events: Click on each event for more details, or view the whole schedule, and be sure to sign up!
And as in previous years, an authors' and podcasters' panel, live entertainment,  community groups, and more.
