Updated Community Development Department Newsletter
January 2023
Greetings and Happy New Year from the La Plata County Community Development Department! Below you will find a news update on the projects, plans, and processes afoot in our Planning and Building Departments. Thank you for your interest in La Plata County!
Here's what you'll find in this issue:
Planning Department Update
Due to a staffing shortage and an increased number of permit applications, processing time for projects has significantly increased. We are working to address this as best we can and appreciate your patience. Thank you for your understanding.
Building Department Update
On October 11, 2022, the Board of County Commissioners adopted impact fees for the Durango Fire Protection District. The fees take effect on January 1, 2023. In addition, the County will be charging a 3% administrative fee (on top of the impact fee) for the collection and processing of the fees. For information regarding these fees go to our webpage here or call (970)382-6251.
Welcome, Kevin Hall!
We want to welcome Kevin Hall to the Community Development Department as our Interim Director. Kevin had an extensive career with the City of Durango and has come out of retirement to join our team on a temporary basis. When not in the office, Kevin can be found searching for powder stashes at Purgatory. Welcome aboard!
Update to Chapter 90, Oil and Gas Regulations
La Plata County Staff has been working on a rewrite of the Oil and Gas Regulations (Chapter 90) in the Land Use Code. We are seeking public input on the draft. Click here to see the draft.
