Five Legal Lessons from the
End of the Oscars

Like you, I watched the totally wild end of the Academy Awards 2017. Like a surprise game changing touchdown or plot twist in a murder mystery, the category for Best Picture saw an unintended upset from a major mistake. At the very least we can use this as a metaphor for five important legal lessons you can take away from the debacle. Click here to read more.

What the Craft Beer Movement Can Teach You About Your Favorite Charity

Pull up a bar stool. Let’s talk about the craft beer movement and what it can teach your fave charity. Yeah, it's an unusual metaphor, but roll with me here.
Back in the day, there were, like, three kinds of beers.
Then came the craft beer movement. I’m not sure whether craft beers were a response to consumers, or whether craft beers created a demand; presumably both. In any case, now places like Exile Brewing in Des Moines or Backpocket in Coralville, offer more beers than you can drink.

Now, there is the expectation that retailers that sell beer must offer a broad variety of options. Any beer-selling establishment that isn’t able to offer its customers wide variety risks being passed over for ones that do. Similarly, those who donate to charity now expect to be able to make their donations in variety of ways other than just cash.

If you're lucky enough to live without want, it's a natural impulse to help others in need. In this TedTalk philosopher Peter Singer explores some important questions related to effective charitable giving.

He talks through some surprising thought experiments to help you balance emotion and practicality -- and make the biggest impact with whatever you can share.
