Dear Suffrage100MA Community,

Suffrage100MA was founded ten years ago with the mission to commemorate the centennial of the ratification of the 19th Amendment by sharing the largely unknown history of the women’s suffrage movement including contributions of suffragists of color. As people learn the incredible suffrage history we hope they will be inspired to VOTE and to get involved with one or more of our nearly 170 Partner organizations

Today, we must all do our part to minimize the spread of the Coronavirus though social distancing, coughing or sneezing into a tissue or use the inside of one's elbow, washing our hands, etc.  For more information about Coronavirus including how to protect yourself or care for yourself if you think you are sick: Massachusetts Department of Public HealthUnited State Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)..
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, our work to honor the suffragist’s legacy and our commitment to voting is more important than ever. In the last week, voting has been interrupted in seven states: Connecticut, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland and Ohio. Those states have had to postpone their presidential primary elections due to the Coronavirus and more news is coming out every hour.
In Massachusetts, four special primary elections are scheduled to take place on March 31st. We urge you to read the release by Suffrage100MA Partner MassVOTE regarding its support of efforts by Senate President Spilka, House Speaker DeLeo, and town and city clerks to postpone those elections due to the dangers posed by COVID-19.
This is a crisis none of us have experienced in our lifetimes, and the months ahead will be difficult. We are incredibly grateful to have been able to travel around the Commonwealth participating in forty-six suffrage centennial events sponsored by our Partners and others this year already! Suffrage100MA was honored to represent Massachusetts in kicking off the centennial year in Pasadena as one of the Suffrage walkers at the Tournament of Roses parade!

In November, we convened our Partner organizations at the Massachusetts State House to begin planning a huge commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment to be held in the fall of 2020. We have continued to grow our diverse coalition of nearly 170 nonprofit and nonpartisan Partners, including social justice and educational organizations, cultural institutions, and more. Click here to learn more about how nonprofit, nonpartisan organizations can become a Suffrage100MA Partner (there is no charge).
If you don’t already, follow us on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram and stay tuned for more information about the exciting centennial event we are planning for the fall 2020!
While we are physically apart, let’s stay close. We all need our community now more than ever.

On behalf of the Board of Directors,
As the Suffragists would say, Onward - and all best wishes,

Fredie Kay
Founder & President, Suffrage100MA
