Gratitude

We live in a disposable society, where life is often looked at in milestones and measured by accomplishments and restrained by the memories of failures.

Mankind has a tendency to either focus on the past, or it looks far down the line, ignoring the present. When all this happens, many aspects of life are missed, overlooked or neglected.

In the USA, we approach Thanksgiving at months end. The holiday centers on gathering of family and loved ones and a tremendously high caloric intake.

It also has a dark side to it in its origin that also needs to be acknowledged....

In my family
after we gatheredwe would take a moment to share what we were grateful for. This, of course, leads me to some Food for Thought...
  • How often are you grateful?
  • Are you grateful for the BIG things? And are you grateful for the small things? What kind of small is small? How BIG is BIG?
  • How do you display your gratitude?
  • When did someone do something for you that made you feel grateful?
  • Are you a Giver or a Taker?
  • Can you receive with gratitude?
  • Can you give with gratitude?
  • When was the last time you thanked the sunrise? The Sunset? Your near and dear One(s)? Is it with the same sense of gratitude?
  • When was the last time you thanked a failure?
  • How grateful are you for BEing you?
  • When was the last time you thanked yourself?
Neelam and I live Life in Gratitude. We are Grateful for each other. We are Grateful for our Families of both blood and spiritual. We are Grateful to Great Spirit. And We are Grateful to You!

Blessings to you and to all that you are Grateful towards.

Quote of the Month:

“Be grateful for the small things, the things that you will one day long for, such as water, the wind, time...and breath.” The Dying Man
Musical Link of the Month

Ever have one of those days when an artist shows up that you somehow or another, missed? Of course, it also so happens that the artist shows up at the right time! Here is such an artist for me: Istvan Sky.

From his website:

Istvan studied singing and music first from nature, then from his family and Indian and Tibetian Masters. In 1990 he became the disciple of the renowned sarod maestro Smt. Sharan Rani in India, from whom he learned complex spiritual musical art (table, vocals and sarod). He tours worldwide with his unique chanting voice and healing music, and has full house concerts/workshops all over the world.

This particular piece is enchanting and deeply moving. This will certainly find a place in our workshops!

For our Dear Ones around the world, we are starting a 4 hour program of online teaching that will introduce you to Shamanism. The program focuses on Shamanism as a Way of BEing, as a way of Life.

From the Storyteller

I walked on the trail, hungry.  A man came to me...a man from a far away land.

I saw in his eyes that he was troubled.

“What is it my Brother? What troubles you so much that it is worn around your eyes like a coat?”

He looked away, his ears turned red as if burnt by the Sun. He then turned back to me; “I have nothing to live for.”

My heart went out to him; “Why do you say such a thing Brother?”

“I have ruined my life. I took up drink...I gambled...I caroused with women and drove my wife away...and then, she died. It was twenty years ago...and feels like it happen yesterday."

The wind of North came onto my face; it spoke to me. I closed my eyes and thanked Great Spirit. I heard the voice within seek its wings. I opened my mouth and my words took wing.

“These things happen...have you learned from them?”

He nodded, looking away at the ground.

I opened my hand, inviting him into my home. We soon sat at the fire. “These things happen...they happen for a reason. If you learn, and you honor...and are grateful for the lesson, then this thing has served its purpose. Let go of what happened. It is done. Thank it. Be grateful.”

He looked blindly through the fire; “Be grateful? For what?”

"For having had the chance to taste all sides of Life. To have known happiness...to have known pain. To be man enough to taste your own tears. To have gotten back up on your feet and to walk again.”

“Walk again?”

“Yes my Brother. To walk once again in this World, for you certainly survived a far worst place than where you are today.”

He sat still for a while. He nodded, and opened his bag. He drew out a piece of dried elk meat, tore it in half and offered it to me.

I took it, with gratitude.
