APCE Annual Event Registration is Open!

APCE invites all involved in educational ministry to embark on a 3-day, “Anything But Ordinary Time” virtual adventure like never before! While 2020 may feel like anything but ordinary, we know God is “making all things new.” While we yearn to be with one another face-to-face, we will instead have a closer-than-front-row seat to every plenary speaker, preacher, musician, and workshop leader. These trailblazers will inform, inspire, and challenge us to:
  • Create and build community through technology
  • Grow in how we lead through the strength of diversity, and
  • Build hope for the church, for our ministries, and for ourselves.
Whether you are a seasoned educator/pastor, inquiring student, or a parent teaching from home for the first time, we will all walk away from our screens with a renewed sense that we are the church and God is with us no matter what.

COVID-19 Grants

The Vision Accountability Board (VAB) approved the FMC/CAC recommendation that the previous offer of no-interest loans from the Wyoming Church Emergency Loan Fund for COVID-19 related expenses be rescinded and a new offer of Grants for COVID-19 related expenses be set in place. Any loan made under the earlier offer will be converted to a grant.

Doing Church Differently

Over the last five years, Missing Peace has been experimenting with doing church differently. They’ve met in parks, beaches, museums, and homeless shelters worshipping with their heart, mind, and strength and loving their neighbors. Rev. Katy Cuthill Steinberg is their founder, and has just released a book about what they’ve learned along the way. Pink Haired Mermaid Baby Jesus (named for a nativity production incident), is about finding miracles in the messes, deeply incarnational hands-on worship, and the priesthood of all believers sharing their experiences of God. Check it out on Amazon.
Celebrating Ordination Anniversaries

As a Presbytery, we would like to start recognizing milestone (5, 10, 15, 20 years, etc.) Ordination Anniversaries of our Ministers of the Word and Sacrament in our bimonthly newsletter. If you would like to be recognized, please send your full ordination date (month/day/year) to the Presbytery Office via email. Thank you!
UCC Looking for Rental Space

The United Community Corporation of Newark, who is operating an energy assistance program as well as a food pantry and clothing closet out of Wolff Memorial Presbyterian Church, is looking to partner with our churches in our Presbytery to provide similar programs throughout Essex County. If your church is interested in potentially renting space to them, please contact Jerome Lane at or (973) 873-0700.

Regarding Ruling Elders:
Congregational Nominating Committees

The PC(USA) Book of Order calls for ruling elders to “exercise leadership, government, spiritual discernment, and discipline and have responsibilities for the life of a congregation as well as the whole church ...” (G-2.0301). As ruling elders are called to ordered ministry for life, it is important to approach the work of nominations to this role with humility, open hearts, and open minds. [Read More]
