On CHRISTMAS Day, when we honor the nativity of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the doors of the 7th Street Bistro Soup Kitchen will be open wide to greet and offer peace and hope to homeless and working poor people living in Newark. The 14th Annual dinner will be held from 2 - 5 pm.

To make the joy of this day complete, the 7th Street Bistro is reaching out to churches in the Newark Presbytery, asking for donations of small, inexpensive gifts for all in attendance.

Women of Faith Nominations
Many of us know women who have raised the economic level of families, and entire communities. We also know women who have provided educational opportunities for girls and boys, joining alongside poor communities, listening and supporting dreams for a better future. The Racial Equity & Women’s Intercultural Ministries in the Presbyterian Mission Agency is sponsoring the Women of Faith Awards to be given at the 224th General Assembly.

The 2020 theme is Women who Disrupt Systemic Poverty.  Nominations are being sought for women who challenge systems of poverty and join in action and solidarity with low-income communities and individuals.

Blessed Tomorrow: Caring for Creation Today

Are you, or is your faith community growing more concerned about climate change?  How do you as a church leader help people make the connections between faith and climate? How well-equipped do you feel to speak about the spectrum of solutions? About opportunities to act and advocate? Are you looking for cost effective ways to decrease the carbon footprint of your church?

Rev. Ruth Boling and Dr. Carlos Monteagudo, from Bloomfield Presbyterian Church on the Green, have recently been trained and certified as Blessed Tomorrow Climate Ambassadors. They seek opportunities to speak to congregations and groups about 1) the impacts of climate change on health, livelihoods and communities, and 2) faith-based responses that will help protect the health and wellbeing of families and communities now, and ensure a prosperous, just, and secure future.

Blessed Tomorrow is “a coalition of diverse religious partners united as faithful stewards of God's creation," and is a program of ecoAmerica, “which builds institutional leadership, public support and political will for climate solutions int he United States.” The PC(USA) is a partner organization.

Leadership

Regarding Ruling Elders:
Congregational Nominating Committees

The PC(USA) Book of Order calls for ruling elders to “exercise leadership, government, spiritual discernment, and discipline and have responsibilities for the life of a congregation as well as the whole church ...” (G-2.0301). As ruling elders are called to ordered ministry for life, it is important to approach the work of nominations to this role with humility, open hearts, and open minds. The congregational nominating committee has the responsibility to provide for the leadership of both the local congregation and the larger church through its councils. [Read More]
