Virtual Easter Pageant

The CBS, Camel Broadcasting Network, is back! Kirk Woodward and Martha Day have written a short Zoom friendly Easter Pageant (that works for all ages and stages) featuring a broadcaster interviewing key figures in the Easter Story. Churches are invited to make it their own to fit their particular setting. Fun, informative, and easy to produce.

CASA Gift Card Drive

Last year more than 1,500 children were placed in foster care in Essex County alone. These children, ranging in age from birth to 21 years old, were removed from their homes as a result of abuse, abandonment or neglect. CASA of Essex County (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children) promotes the welfare of these children by providing a safety net of support, advocacy and mentorship. One of the areas where there is a great need of support is amongst the youth ages 16+. At this age, they are often learning to live on their own.

To address this need, the Community Ministries Team is partnering with CASA Essex County to sponsor a gift card drive for foster youth in our local area. Gift cards would help fill the gaps to purchase necessities such as food, clothing and personal items.

Click here to contribute to this cause. (Checks may also be mailed to the Presbytery Office - please email hello@newarkpresbytery.org to let us know to expect the donation.)
Disability Advocates Sought

Do you have a passion and/or interest in advocating for individuals with disabilities? A group of presbyters is organizing to discuss advocacy strategies and ministry opportunities within the new Presbytery. Please contact Liz at hello@newarkpresbytery.org if you are interested in learning more about this group.
Lenten Events

Did you know that "Ash Wednesday" was one of the top Google searches that led people to our site in the last couple of years? If your congregation is doing special Lenten activities (services, concerts, Bible studies, devotionals, etc.) that are open to the public, please send them to hello@newarkpresbytery.org so that we can post them on our site.

Northeast Presbytery COM

The new Committee on Ministry for the Northeast Presbytery is beginning to organize. One of its working groups will oversee validated/specialized ministries (clergy not serving in churches) and Commissioned Ruling Elders (ruling elders serving in a pastoral capacity). This team could serve these people better if it had people from those categories as members. If you might be interested in serving, please let David Noble (pastor.centralpresbyterian@gmail.com) or Deborah Huggins (huggins1013@gmail.com) know.
Presbytery Directory Update

As congregations come together from the Presbyteries of Elizabeth, Newark, and Palisades, we are taking this time to update our combined directories. Please identify a representative from your congregation to fill in these fields and submit this form as soon as possible to ensure that everyone is receiving communications from the new Presbytery of Northeast New Jersey. Any questions or concerns may be emailed to northeastnjpresbytery@gmail.com

Leadership

Regarding Ruling Elders:
Congregational Nominating Committees

The PC(USA) Book of Order calls for ruling elders to “exercise leadership, government, spiritual discernment, and discipline and have responsibilities for the life of a congregation as well as the whole church ...” (G-2.0301). As ruling elders are called to ordered ministry for life, it is important to approach the work of nominations to this role with humility, open hearts, and open minds. [Read More]
