Musings of a Wandering Presbyterian
Storytelling Part 2

Death is inevitable…and, death is beautiful. One of the most unexpected challenges for me this year has revolved around death. I have always had a complicated relationship and history with death, and had not planned on having it dug up and expanded upon this year. This year I have witnessed a few members of my community at Brooks-Howell pass away, and it has been tough at times. I will not stand here and pretend that all of them have hit me to the core, but some have been harder to process than others. What I can say for certain, is that each of their deaths have affected me in some way or another, and, if I am being honest with myself, I am grateful for the experience to share in a small part of their journey. If you will not be at the September presbytery meeting, please send your payment to the office. If you would like your calendar(s) to be shipped, please include shipping in the check. (Shipping costs are approximately $2.50/calendar or $7.25 for 3 calendars.)

From Jan Edmiston:

How Traumatic Was a Trip to the Moon?

I’m thinking about trauma today. Pastors are entrusted with stories of trauma from parishioners, strangers, and colleagues. Domestic abuse. Combat. Incest. Terrorism. Fire.

Pastors (and educators, social workers, police officers, and medical professionals) hear a lot of difficult stories – at least if we are authentically open to hearing them.  And I don’t know if incidents of trauma are on the rise in the world or it’s just that people are more open to talking about their trauma, but all clergy – and anyone in people professions – need training in ACEs and in Trauma Informed Care.

Can you imagine how traumatic it was to fly to, land on, and return from the moon? [Read More]
