We are continuing to condense these email updates weekly. Construction for the project is currently 20% complete. Use the links below to skip to the sections you care about:
Expect night and weekend work in Downtown and Capitol Hill over the next few weeks.
 
Crews for Madison BRT are working hard to make progress on construction as safely and efficiently as possible. Typical work hours are between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. The contractor has obtained a noise variance to complete construction activities within allowable noise limits for work outside these hours.

Upcoming work highlights:
  • Weekend of June 10 - 12:
    • Weekend work on E Madison between Broadway and 11th Avenue for SPU to transfer services to the temporary watermain*
    • Electrical work at Spring and 3rd Avenue
  • During the week of June 13:
    • Paving on E Madison between 7th and 9th avenues
    • Paving on Spring between 5th and 6th avenues
    • Night work for watermain installation scheduled for June 16 on E Madison between Broadway and 11th Avenue*
  • Weekend of June 17 - 19:
    • SPU will transfer services near E Madison between Broadway and 11th Avenue during the day on June 18*
    • 2nd Avenue from E Madison St to Marion - closed
    • Driveway closures and night work on Spring between 2nd and 3rd avenues
    • Paving on E Madison between 1st and 2nd avenues
  • Week of June 20:
    • Service interruptions on E Madison between Broadway to 11th Avenue for watermain installation during the day*
    • Nightwork on June 22nd on East Madison between Broadway to 11th Avenue*
    • Crews will remove the staging area on E Pine St in preparation for Pride celebrations
    • Paving demo moves east on E Madison St between 9th to Boren
    • Watermain installation on E Madison between Denny Way and 23rd Avenue*

Detours and lane reductions:
To make space for construction and to keep people traveling safe, our contractor regularly installs short- and long-term detours.
Traffic reduced to one lane at:
  • E Madison St between 1st and 4th avenues
  • Spring St between 1st and 6th avenues
  • Madison St between 7th and 9th avenues
  • 9th Ave between E Madison and Marion streets
  • E Madison St between Broadway and 13th Ave
  • E Madison St between E Denny Way and 23rd Ave
  • E Madison St between 24th and 26th avenues
King County Metro bus stop closures or relocations
As construction activities continue, bus stops on the project corridor will temporarily close or relocate as needed. Please visit King County Metro’s Transit Alerts page to learn more about these closures or relocations.

Downtown: Street and sidewalk paving continue
  • Weekend Work June 10 – 12:
    • Electrical work in the Spring and 3rd Avenue intersection
  • During the week of June 13:
    • On E Madison St:
      • Sidewalk work on the south side of Madison between 2nd and 4th avenues
    • On Spring St:
      • Sidewalk work on the south side between 2nd and 3rd avenues
      • Demo on the south side of Spring St between 5th and 6th avenues
  • Weekend Work June 17 - 19:
    • Paving on 2nd Ave on the South side of Madison – Madison will be open; 2nd Avenue closed
      • Crews will work at night on June 17 to prepare for paving
    • Driveway paving on the south side of Spring between 2nd and 3rd avenues
  • During the week of June 20:
    • On Madison St:
      • Sidewalk work on the south side of Madison between 2nd and 4th avenues
      • Crews will begin building a bus stop on the north side of Madison between 5th and 6th avenues
    • On Spring St:
      • Paving on the south side of Spring St between 5th and 6th avenues
First Hill: Crews complete sidewalk work on Spring St and paving on Madison between 7th and 9th avenues
  • Weekend work on June 10 – 12: 
    • King County Metro will remove existing trolley power lines on Madison St between 5th Ave and Broadway.
      • Drivers can expect temporary lane shifts/closures and intermittent delays while equipment is repositioned
  • During the week of June 13: 
    • On E Madison St: 
      • Roadway demo and paving on the south side of Madison between 7th to 9th avenues
      • Pole removals between 6th Ave and Broadway
    • On Spring St: 
      • Sidewalk work on the south side of Spring St between 7th and 8th avenues
  • During the week of June 20:
    • On E Madison St:
      • Roadway demo and paving on the south side of Madison moves east between 7th to Boren avenues
      • Pole removals between 6th Ave and Broadway
    • On Spring St:
      • Sidewalk work on the south side of Spring between 7th and 8th avenues
Capitol Hill: Watermain installation continues in multiple locations; 10 Avenue closed between Madison and Seneca 
  • During the week of June 13:  
    • On E Madison:  
      • Watermain installation on E Madison Street continues between Broadway/11th Avenue and Denny/23rd Avenue*
        • Nightwork planned on E Madison St on June 16 to transfer services between Broadway and 11th Avenue
      • Pole foundation installation east of 12th on E Madison St
    • On 10th Avenue:  
      • Road closure between Madison and Seneca Street
    • Inlet work at select locations continues
  • Weekend work June 17 - 19:
    • Watermain installation on Saturday, June 18, on E Madison between Broadway and 11th Avenue*
  • During the week of June 20:
    • On E Madison St:
      • Watermain installation continues on E Madison between Broadway and 11th Avenue*
        • Nightwork scheduled for June 22 to make service connections*
      • Temporary signal installation at E Madison St and 11th Avenue
      • Watermain installation expands west on E Madison between 20th and 23rd Avenue (previously between Denny Way and 23rd Avenue)
    • On E Union St:
      • Crews will install a duct bank between 12th and 13th Avenues
    • On E Pine St:
      • Crews will remove the staging area on E Pine St in preparation for Pride celebrations
* Nearby residents and businesses may experience a temporary water outage as part of the watermain installation between Denny and 23rd Avenue. For questions about water outages, visit  SPU’s water outage map or call SPU’s 24/7 Operations Response Center at 206-386-1800.
Madison Valley: Watermain installation continues on Madison St 
  • During the week of June 13 and June 20:
    • On E Madison St:
      • Watermain installation on E Madison St between 24th Avenue and Thomas
