Paving to resume on E Madison St between 7th and 9th avenues on June 13
 
Crews for Madison BRT are working hard to make progress on construction as safely and efficiently as possible. Typical work hours are between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. The contractor has obtained a noise variance to complete construction activities within allowable noise limits for work outside of these hours.

Upcoming work highlights: 
  • Weekend of June 3 - 5:
    • Weekend and night work at Madison and Broadway for traffic signal upgrades 
  • During the week of June 6:  
    • 10th Avenue between Madison and Seneca streets – closed
    • Nighttime work and water shut off on June 7 on E Madison between 20th and 23rd Avenues*  
  • Weekend of June 10 - 12:
    • 2nd Avenue at E Madison St – closed
    • Electrical work at Spring and 3rd Avenue – expect lane closures and detours
    • Electrical and paving work at Madison and 5th Avenue
    • SDOT crews will resurface E Union St between 20th Ave and 21st Ave. Expect parking restrictions and road closures between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
    • Daytime and nightwork at E Madison and Broadway for traffic signal upgrades 
  • During the week of June 13:
    • Paving resumes on E Madison between 7th and 9th avenues
    • Paving activities move east on Spring between 5th and 6th avenues

Detours and lane reductions:
To make space for construction and to keep people traveling safe, our contractor regularly installs short- and long-term detours.
Traffic reduced to one lane at:
  • E Madison St between 1st and 4th avenues
  • Spring St between 1st and 5th avenues
  • Spring St between 7th and 9th avenues
  • Madison St between 7th and 9th avenues
  • 9th Ave between E Madison and Marion streets
  • E Madison St between Broadway and 13th Ave
  • E Madison St between E Denny Way and 23rd Ave
  • E Madison St between 24th and 26th avenues
King County Metro bus stop closures or relocations
As construction activities continue, bus stops on the project corridor will temporarily close or relocate as needed. Please visit King County Metro’s Transit Alerts page to learn more about these closures or relocations.
Upcoming construction activities
Downtown: Street and sidewalk paving continue, including the following activities:
  • During the week of June 6:
    • Sidewalk work:
      • E Madison St between 1st and 3rd avenues
      • Spring St between 2nd and 3rd avenues 
      • 1st Avenue  on the east side of the road between Madison and Marion streets
  • Weekend Work June 10 – 12:
    • Paving on 2nd Avenue on the South side of Madison – Madison will be open; 2nd Avenue closed
    • Electrical and paving work in the Madison and 5th Avenue intersection
    • Electrical work in the Spring and 3rd Avenue intersection
  • During the week of June 13:
    • Sidewalk work:
      • E Madison St between 1st and 3rd avenues
      • Spring St between 2nd and 3rd avenues 
      • 1st Avenue on the east side of the road between Madison and Marion streets
    • Electrical and paving activities move east on Spring St between 5th and 6th avenues
First Hill: Work continues on Spring St between 7th and 9th avenues continues; Crews resume paving on Madison between 7th and 9th avenues on June 13
  • Weekend work on June 3 – 5 and June 10 – 12: 
    • King County Metro will remove existing trolley power lines on Madison St between 5th Ave and Broadway.
      • Drivers can expect temporary lane shifts/closures and intermittent delays while equipment is repositioned
  • During the week of June 6: 
    • On E Madison St: 
      • Pole foundation installation between 9th to Boylston avenues
    • On 9th Avenue:
      • PSE gas line relocation between E Madison and Marion Streets
    • On Spring St: 
      • Intersection work at Spring and 8th Avenue
      • Electrical and paving work between 7th and 9th avenues
  • During the week of June 13: 
    • On E Madison St: 
      • Roadway demo and paving beginning on the south side of Madison between 7th to 9th avenues
      • Pole removals between 6th Ave and Broadway
    • On Spring St: 
      • Electrical and paving between 7th and 9th avenues
Capitol Hill: Capitol Hill: Watermain installation continues in multiple locations; 10 Avenue closed between Madison and Seneca starting as early as June 6
  • Weekend work on June 3 – 5: 
    • On E Union St: 
      • SDOT crews will resurface E Union St between 20th Ave and 21st Ave. Expect parking restrictions and road closures between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM. The road will fully reopen each night.
      • Keep an eye out for marked detours.

    • On E Madison 
      • Watermain installation on E Madison Street continues between Broadway/11th Avenue and Denny/23rd Avenue*
    • On 10th Avenue 
      • Road closure between Madison and Seneca Street to begin June 6 
    • Inlet work at select locations continues  
* Nearby residents and businesses may experience a temporary water outage as part of the watermain installation between Denny and 23rd Avenue. For questions about water outages, visit  SPU’s water outage map or call SPU’s 24/7 Operations Response Center at 206-386-1800.
Madison Valley: Watermain installation continues on Madison St 
  • During the week of June 6 and June 13:
    • On E Madison St:
      • Watermain installation on E Madison St between 24th and 25th avenues
