What's been happening at Learning Matters

We had our Official Opening of our Centre on Monday the 30th of May. Thank you to all who came and thank you to Barbara Kuriger MP for the official cutting of the cake.
Here is a link to Barbara's video where she talks about reviewing the Budget 2016 measures for special education funding for kiwi kids, but also acknowledging the hard work individuals and groups such as Learning Matters Ltd in Te Awamutu play in the future growth of our children, this is definitely worth a view https://www.facebook.com/BarbaraKurigerMP/videos/1767495906796149/

Carla and Kylie have been to visit a number of schools to develop relationships and also shared understandings around how we can work together to ensure students have the best support possible in place. School visits include - Cambridge Primary, Te Awamutu Intermediate, Maihihi, Kaipaki, and Te Awamutu Primary School.

Bex Fraser has joined our team as Business Manager, you can view her profile on our Facebook page.  All inquiries regarding invoicing and statements are now to be directed to her please. You can email Bex  admin@learningmatters.co.nz

We now have a 'cash lock box' for those who like to pay on the day of their child's session.  This is located in the hallway on a wooden shelf.  Please place your payments in an envelope with your child's name and place this in the box.

A reminder that as per our enrolment terms and conditions payment is to be 'strictly payment in advance or on the day of education sessions. We have a number of outstanding fees. Students with outstanding fees will unfortunately not be able to be scheduled for next term's sessions until these have been paid.

All our educators have been busy studying towards their accreditation with the Australian Dyslexia Association. This involves submitting lesson plans and reading reviews. We follow the international Dyslexia Association findings and research. A number of parents have asked for links to readings and further information to assist them in understanding how their child learns best. We encourage you to go to this link and have a look at their very informative Fact sheets. https://dyslexiaida.org/fact-sheets/

Maths Tip for the Month: (Times tables and Multiplication)

Are your children focussing on learning their times tables, but having trouble remembering them? Your first point of call in supporting them is to ensure they can skip count. Eg, 2,4,6,8,10. Can they do this forwards and backwards? Whilst counting out loud it is a good idea, it is also necessary for them to be writing these down so they are using more than one sense. This helps the brain to retain the sequence. Skip counting then leads into repeated addition eg, 2 + 2+ 2 which is in fact 3 x 2. We rarely use facts in isolation and to develop the much needed multiplicative relationship for fractions, proportions and ratios later in maths we first are require an understanding of how these facts work.

Here's a great youtube fun link for those learners whose prefer to learn through visual channels and for those parents who are unsure as to how to explain how multiplication works when supporting your child's home learning.

Thank you

We would like to thank you all for your support this term. A reminder many of your children have STEPSWEB logins and they will be able to access these over the holiday period. We wish you all a Fantastic holiday. We hope that as Director of Operations you do manage to get some down time from the business that being a parent brings. Here's a little clip that may put a smile on your face.
