Carla's speaking engagements - Pearson Working Memory Conference

Spreading the word
Carla had an amazing week away in Australia where she was a speaker at the Working Memory across the Lifespan Conference. It was an incredible honour to be asked to present as the only representative from NZ and also from the school education sector. This was a great opportunity to network with other professionals, to grow our practise, and to also put Learning Matters on the map internationally. The feedback was very positive:
"Thank you for your presentation today. It was fantastic! I'm looking forward to digging deeper with everything. I saw you present yesterday in Perth and you were brilliant. I'm feeling so inspired. Thank you
I agree with Sarah Ann! One courageous lady!"

Accounting & Administration

Please note, for all existing students enrolled with Learning Matters, as of Term 4 we will not be crediting sessions which students do not attend.  We are sure that you will understand from a business perspective this is no longer viable due to fixed costs.  This amendment will be made to our enrolment form terms and conditions at the end of this term.  All new enrolments will reflect these terms and conditions.

There are a large number of people who are behind on their weekly payments.  Please note that your account needs to be cleared in full prior to your child attending sessions in term 4.

A reminder that we have changed the way we invoice.  You will now receive one invoice at the start of each term which outlines the full terms fees. Our terms of payment have not changed, you are still able to pay this off weekly, however a reminder that sessions are to be paid in advance or on the day of.  If you have any inquiries regarding invoicing and statements please contact Bex

A reminder that if you are making cash/cheque payments for your sessions we now have a 'cash lock box' located in the hallway on a wooden shelf.  Please place your payments in an envelope with your child's name and place this in the box.

Dyslexia in the Classroom Workshop

Dyslexia in the Classroom workshop was held at the Avantidrome in Cambridge.  A lovely venue to work in.  It was great to spend the day with 20 motivated and passionate teachers from South Auckland, Cambridge, Te Aroha, Te Awamutu, Pio Pio, and Tauranga who are working hard to further develop their understanding and practise in relation to dyslexic learners.  We look forward to running this amazing day again in term 1 of 2017.
"The light went on. Have been waiting for this a long time." Thank you
"Thank you so much for an incredibly informative and well thought out workshop. I now feel I have new ideas / understandings I can implement into my classroom."
"This has been a valuable investment of my time which I hope I can flow back with the same passion and clarity to my colleagues. Keep up the wonderful work. Thanks so much Carla and Kylie."

Instilling a Love of Maths is really important - we often speak so much about the importance of reading to our children but what about maths? I encourage you to take five minutes to read this maths article. Let's not instil our fear of, or difficulty with grasping maths into our children, let's instil a love of maths.

Celebrating Our Successes

Feedback from parents, teachers and students who attend Learning Matters:

Blending and Segmenting CVC words:

Congratulations to this little guy who has worked so hard to secure his sounds and is now doing a great job of blending these to form words. Well done.

Thank you

We wish you all a wonderful holiday break with your children.

If you fail, never give up because F.A.I.L. means "First Attempt In Learning"
End is not the end, if fact E.N.D. means "Effort Never Dies"
If you get No as an answer, remember N.O. means "Next Opportunity".
So Let's be positive. Anon
