President's Message
Catherine A. Melquist
President, MSUA

Cyber Security.  Today marks the final entry in MSUA's adjacent market series focusing on cyber security.  The goal is to capture cyber security news and information that may have an impact on mobility satellite solutions.

Special thanks to interview participants -- Gary Gagnon of Inmarsat, Martin Jerrold of GVF and Robert Mayer of the USTelecom Association and CISRIC -- for sharing your knowledge and perspectives on the criticality and relative importance of cyber security to mobility satellite. The time and effort you contributed to this discussion are deeply appreciated.

Discussions are underway now to determine a formal role MSUA can play in a national level telecommunications industry group focused on cyber security policy and public-private partnerships between government and industry.  More information to follow.

Adjacent Market Series.  MSUA's Adjacent Market Series began as a trial program focused on capturing news in other markets that could have development implications for the satellite mobility community.  We focused first on agriculture then cyber security with a plan to next move through the critical infrastructure sectors (ie. water, transportation, chemicals, electricity, etc.). Despite high readership, it's been determined that the incremental cost increase of the additional article research is beyond MSUA's current budget and therefore not sustainable at this time.  As of now, continuation of the series will be dependent on sponsorship support. Hopefully, we'll resume continuation of the series at a later date.

Satellite 2017.  Great news!   Due to strong turn-out at Satellite 2016, Access Intelligence has decided to make the Mobility conference track at Satellite 2017 more robust than ever. As sponsor of the Mobility Track, MSUA is prepping to begin planning discussion topics, content and panel selection.  MSUA favors the ecosystem model comprised of various players in the value chain including satellite mobility users.  We also encourage established and new players alike.

For those interested in participating in Satellite 2017 but who are not MSUA members, now is s good time to join. Click here for more details.

NAB - New York.  Special thanks to MSUA member ViaSat for stepping forward and helping to arrange a mobility user from the commercial aeronautical community to participate in MSUA's User Interview at NAB New York on November, 10.  Specific event details will be announced shortly.

OILCOMM.  MSUA is still looking for an MSUA member organization to collaborate on MSUA's User Interview at Oilcomm in Houston on Thursday, October 13.  Ideally we'd like to interview satellite mobility users operating in the up and mid-stream segments of the energy market.  The goal is to learn their perspectives on operational requirements and innovations needed to meet their technology roadmaps. MSUA members interested in collaborating, please click here.

Thank you and now on to Mobility News!

Moving futures. Smarter together.
