Satellite Innovation Symposium starts today and more disaster recovery and satellite news.
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Catherine A. Melquist

Today is the opening day of the Satellite Innovation Symposium in Silicon Valley. Dubbed the "flagship satellite event of the west coast", panels of speakers will examine how innovative technologies are influencing the way products are envisioned, designed, sourced, produced, assembled, sold, and consumed. MSUA will be taking part by as I will be moderating a panel on satellite mobile connectivity and assuming all goes well technically, next week's edition of Mobility News will include a transcript of the discussion featuring MSUA members David Bruner of Panasonic Avionics, Pierre-Jean Beylier of Speedcast, Josh Miner of Iridium along with Kambiz Aghili of Blue Sky Network and Joshua Marks of Global Eagle.

Meanwhile, more news broke throughout the week on the role satellite is and will play in disaster response and recovery including references Richard Branson makes in his new book specific to OneWeb.  Here's more....

Mobile Satellite Connectivity | October 3 at 8:00am

At few points in history have the tea leaves of mobile connectivity been more difficult to read. HTS & traditional satellite internet providers potentially face significant competition from new constellations offering wider coverage and comparable connectivity. What role could “mothership” type satellites play in terms of constellation management? Ground equipment is facing similar disruption with the seemingly near term introduction of flat panel antennas. What does the future of mobile connectivity hold? How will satellite be an integral component of the 5G and terrestrial wireless world of the future? What does the broadband connection of tomorrow look like?
