While the Monochrome team have been away in Poland, we have been busy building and painting a set, and rehearsing under the guidance of guest director Christine Bentley. Christine’s 1989 Lieder stage debut was under the direction of John Spicer in Nude With Violin, the first of many performances. Her other talents and interests include supporting our wardrobe co-ordinator Pauline Mullen, singing, travel, learning new languages and being an enthusiastic participant in yoga and pilates. Christine was Assistant Director of last year’s The Touch of Silk.
The  cast of five includes well known locals David Rayner, Steph Warden, Brian Hill, Shane Daly and newcomer to the Lieder stage, Helena Bozetto. The play is a thriller and more of a why-dunnit than a who-dunnit. It is set in 1939 in Provence, just as the Second World War is about to begin. It is written by English writer, Brian Clemens, who is best known for the television series The Avengers and The Professionals.

The festival is over but I’m sure the new and renewed friendships will live on.
What an amazing experience for those who travelled to Poland.

Our group meeting with Olgierd Geblewicz, the Marshall of the west Pomerania region of Poland. He holds a similar position to our state premiers.
The group also met with the mayor of Goleniow to discuss an ongoing relationship between the two cities, which are of a similar size.

A Musical
Congratulations to musical  director Marianne Powles, and the multi-generational cast and crew of A Musical.
Many of the 7 performances were sold out and there is still a buzz about town from very happy audience members.

The Lieder continues to support other local community groups by offering fundraising opportunities via hosting opening nights.
For a very reasonable fee, you can 'buy' the evening. You are then free to set your own ticket price and keep the profits.
Groups usually provide light refreshments and run a raffle. It can be a relatively easy way of raising funds whilst also having an entertaining night out.
