We've been busy!

It's been a while since you've heard from us, and that's because summer is BABY SEASON!  With most pups back in the wild, we're enjoying a bit of a breather, but juvenile and adult bats still get in trouble--especially in almost constant triple-digit temperatures! With the help of kind people like you, they make their way to us regularly. Check out a few of our recent adventures:

Warehouse employees rescue a distressed bat
We want people to know that when bats swoop down low inside a building, they are not attacking, but often are simply desperately thirsty.

Q: What's red and green and flies all over?

A: Our Eastern red bat family, tagged with green ears for identification, of course!

Our red bat families are all color-coded (with corresponding control numbers) so that we can raise and
release them together. Visit the blog to check out one of our favorite moments from the summer: the “green family” release. What a joy it was to see them all fly off together on a beautiful summer evening!

What brought you to Austin Bat Refuge?
"Having grown up in Austin I've always loved bats. After admiring them from afar for so long, working directly with and helping these magnificent creatures that are so vital to our ecosystem was the next logical step. Getting to learn more about caring for them, as well as interacting with the fantastic humans at the Refuge, has been an absolute joy."
