Spring Semester at
Foshay Academy of Finance!

Spring Semester 2017 is OVER!  But we couldn't say goodbye to it without celebrating the fabulous successes we had and thanking all of you who helped to make these successes a reality!  From January to June, each month we have had some super events!

Starting with January we kicked of the semester with a major event at USC hosted by NFTE called "Transform LA".  Sophomores were treated to a day of workshops, panel discussions, great food and inspirational comedian and empowerment speaker Ernie G!

In February the Seniors visited UBS Wealth Management for a Career Exploration event...
...hosted by Cindy Barakyan of Junior Achievement and UBS's Leslie Chang at their Pasadena offices. AOF Seniors thank Leslie and Cindy for an awesome day full of inspirational advice!

The Seniors (shown here with Mr. Wolf and his class) also taught several Kindergarten through 5th grade classes from the Foshay Elementary Village  lessons in Financial Literacy using Junior Achievement's High School Heroes curriculum.  Aren't they so cute!

 March was HUGE!

AOF teachers Dr. Gonder and Mr. Stahura, along with several other Foshay Academy teachers, went to Sacramento to the California Partnership Academies Annual Conference where they met with thousands of CPA teachers across the state.

There were many great speakers and workshops including the hilarious and extremely inspirational Dr. Adolph Brown. "If you can't see this in every student, GET OUT OF EDUCATION!" Check him out at

March Mock Madness!

March Mock Interview Madness!!

The Juniors confidently participated in Mock Interviews dressed professionally with resume's in hand!
Many of our awesome Advisory Board Members and Business and Community Partners from City National Bank, KPMG, LA County District Attorney's Office, the LA Mayor's Office, West Angeles Church, NFTE, Junior Achievement, and the Walt Disney Company volunteered their time to interview the 11th graders giving them valuable tips and experience that will place them one step closer to success.

April Showers

Along with "spring showers", April brought in another "Big Brother & Sister" Event hosted by AOF Human Resources Department.

Seniors met with their Junior and Sophomore "little brothers and sisters" in a team building event--the last one of the year on campus.

Guest Speakers

One of the fabulous guest speakers who came to share their knowledge with out students includes Mrs. Stayce Wagner of Spencer Crane Etiquette.

Stayce came to AOF to teach Juniors a Workshop in Business Etiquette.  Here she shares the finer points of soft skills.

NFTE Project

The Sophomores were busy preparing their NFTE Business Plans and Presentations. Business partners who assisted them include T Kurera of KPMG and Chirag Sagar of Destinations Luxury as well as several of the MoneyThink/USC Mentors.

Two of the entrepreneurial projects competed the end of April at the Semi-Regional Competition.  One of them, Ximena Salas and her Mis Raices clothing line, advanced to the Southern California Regional Final Competition.  Later in May, Ximena placed 2nd at the Finals winning $1,00 and a trip to New York to compete in the NFTE National Competition.

May Blooming Out All Over!

Early in May AOF was invited to a TownHallLA luncheon event at CityClubLA to hear Claremont McKenna College professor discuss his economic projections for L A's future.  They had the chance to use those business etiquette skills Stayce taught them.

KIVA Project

This year the Senior Kiva Project raised over $500 making a grand total of $1800 raised by Foshay Academy of Finance to assist struggling entrepreneurs in Developing Nations with loans to build their businesses.

KPMG Career Exploration Event

On Friday, May 26th the AOF Juniors were treated to a wonderful day at KPMG's Downtown LA offices hosted by T and Nicole.  It was an awesome experience the students will never forget. Here are a few photos from the day.

T made the day great with words of wisdom and inspiration!

We ended the year with our Team Building Trip to Griffith Park saluting and saying goodbye to Seniors and welcoming the Freshmen.

Freshmen learned from Seniors, Sophomores and Juniors that working together is the key to success!

Upcoming events: School Year 2017-18
