Welcome to the latest edition of
'On the Blocks' for 2019

What a great start to 2019 MSV swimmers have had. At the Branch LC Championships we had 197 swimmers from 26 clubs with many Nationals and Branch records broken AND a provisional World Record by the Malvern Marlins - congratulations Pam Kempson, Leigh Rodgers, Pat Baker, and Jan Jeffrey for an amazing swim in the women’s 280+ freestyle 800m relay. It was a great Championships and by all accounts enjoyed by all. Awesome effort from everyone!  
Things to note and add into your diary:
  • MSV AGM is going to be held on the Tuesday 16 April - There are some vacancies coming up on the MSV Management Committee - this is your chance to be involved (contact the office if you are interested)
  • MSV Gala night (G – Gather A – Awards L – Laugh A – Acknowledge) 3 August - this is an exciting new night that MSV Management Committee are busily planning so save the date!
  • The World Record Butterfly attempt was postponed - if you are interested in taking part of the rescheduled event contact admin@mastersswimming.org.au and we will let you know.
MSV is holding a Club Coach Course - Sunday 19 May to be held at Harold Holt Pool from 9am - 4.30pm - if you are interested in attending please email admin@mastersswimming.org.au

Congratulations to all the MSV Clubs and Swimmers who took part in the 2019 MSA Nationals in Adelaide recently. You did yourselves, your clubs, MSV and Masters swimming proud in and out of the water. 35 MSV Branch records were broken and many National records were broken by MSV swimmers.

Congratulations to Paul who was a member and Chair of the MSA IT Committee 2003 - 2010, working on the implementation of the online database which commenced in 2008 and has had continual involvement with MSA/SportsTG on behalf of MSA ever since. Tuesday 16 April 7.30pm
MSAC Board Room - Enter the main entrance at MSAC with stairs on the left hand side. Head up the stairs and do a u-turn at the top, the MSAC Level 1 Board Room is directly in front. If an elevator is preferred, make your way past the main reception keeping left, the elevator is located underneath the stairs. Head up to level 1 and turn left when exiting the elevator.

Baddaginnie Animal Swim – Postal Swim
1 April – 30 June 2019
THE ANIMAL IS BACK: 32nd year anniversary of the Baddaginnie Animal Postal Swim. Revived by Surrey Park Seahorses. Unleash the animal within by swimming the following 5 events in one day from 1 April – 30 June 2019 (200m Fly, 200m Back, 200m Breast, 400m IM and 800m Free)

As winter settles in Australia, join MSA’s swim training camp in tropical Phuket. Award winning coach Colin Shugg will assist you to attain your swimming goals. Whether you want to improve your stroke and swimming efficiency or have a goal to swim the English Channel, or want to train with like minded people in a wonderful environment then this camp is for you!!

We have seen 3 swims from the MSA 2019 Swim Series completed and MSV members are out in force once again. So far we have:
  • Females - 12 leading the way at the top of their age group with 33 in the top 10 ranked swimmers
  • Males - 9 at the top of their age groups with 48 in the top 10 ranked swimmers
The next swim is in sunny QLD with the MSQ State Championships 11 - 13 April - entries close 4 April (Still time to enter!) ENTER NOW
 
CLUB CORNER:
Doncaster Dolphins
What a great effort - 3 first time Dolphins competed at the LC Championships and the club as a whole have had huge success in the pool and in the ocean in the last few months.
Free swims for Adults in April
April is the Premiers Active April and the Flippers are delighted to offer a FREE skills program for people who haven't been in the pool for a while or are looking to up skill their technique or fitness levels. If you know anyone who can swim 50m and are 18+ then get them to contact the Flippers and join them for 3 free swim sessions on any Wednesday in April at the Morwell Leisure Centre 7 - 8pm.

A lovely tribute to Gippsland Flippers - Don Coupe
At the Australia Day celebrations for Latrobe City, Don Coupe was inducted into the Sporting Legends Hall of Fame. To say that the Flippers were proud, excited and humbled is a huge understatement. Don’s wife Margaret gave a wonderful acceptance speech on Don’s behalf, with Don looking quietly over her shoulder, as he would have!! Malvern Marlins April Report
The Marlins have been doing what they do best - swimming well, competing hard and having lots of fun doing it all in. They have had some great successes in the pool and in the ocean. Another great read from the Marlins!

 
Victorian Masters - Ben Morrison
Last month we celebrated Victorian Masters (MSV virtual Club) swimmer - Ben Morrison's winning swim in the 5 km Swim in the Australian Open Water Championships in Adelaide. Now we can celebrate his Open Water GOLD at the Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi. Ben has also won gold at the 2017 and 2018 WOW Challenge. Well done BEN!

Warrnambool Whales - The Spout
The Whales have been busy lately. They have recently held their inaugural 100 x 100's with 39 swimmers participating and 16 swimmers completing the 10km - they also raised over $800. And now they move on to celebrate their 30th Birthday with their Celebration and Presentation Night Sat 13 April. Plus you can purchase their bathers beautifully modelled in this picture and support the club. Contact them today!
