From Roughies Races to Roughies Rematch
Saturday 18 November had it all: 120 entrants ready to race, Fitzroy Swimming Pool prepared to host them and - literally - a truck full of tacos and the biggest tub of doughnuts you've ever seen. Unfortunately two uninvited arrivals were the rain and lighting.
|
|
Which meant despite all the planning and the best endeavours of the Yarra Roughies, the Roughies Races had to be cancelled. Thanks for the support of the swimmers, officials and volunteers to get them to that point, as disappointing as the cancellation was. The Yarra Roughies committee is working hard to schedule a rematch in the first months of 2018. Keep an eye on their website and Yarra Roughies facebook page.

Masters Swimming Rules Update
Fina introduced a range of rule changes to the Swimming Rules in September 2017.
The majority of them were clarifications, assisting reporting and providing consistency in processes and terminology. The actual rules governing the strokes have not changed.
The Rule that has changed and affects swimmers directly is:
SW 12.8 World Records and World Junior Records will be accepted only when times are recorded by Automatic Officiating Equipment, or Semi-Automatic Officiating Equipment in the case of Automatic Officiating Equipment system malfunction.
As this Rule is a Fina prerogative, it had to be automatically accepted by Masters Swimming Australia and was adopted on 22 September 2017. The other changes have been approved by the National Technical Committee and are anticipated to be accepted by the MSA Branches in time for implementation on January 1 2018.
The Masters Swimming Australia SW Rules will be updated on the Masters Swimming Australia website when that approval has come through.
