2020 - the end is in sight!
What a strange year 2020 has been... and never has data been more important. As the year draws to a close we can only hope that we soon see an end to Covid-19 and that 2021 will bring us a healthier, prosperous year and that life can possibly return to some kind of normal, with our usual face to face events and regional meet ups taking place again. Until then we continue to offer our monthly webinars, CDMP Boot Camps and virtual regional meet ups. The Mentoring Scheme is as active as ever and our membership continues to grow. Website upgrade, new logo, new DAMA UK... read on
DAMA UK Website: You may have noticed DAMA UK has a new logo. You may also have noticed this week that the website is currently having a major upgrade. The bulk of the work has been carried out over the last few weeks but the changeover was over the weekend and Monday. There are still areas that require updating and some not currently available, we apologise for this and hope to have a fully functional website up and running by Monday, 7 December. We are hoping the new look and feel are pleasing and that the end result will be a user friendly, easy on the eye resource for our members.
UK National Data Strategy Survey: Thank you to DAMA UK members for contributing to our response to the survey. The submission was forwarded by the 2 December deadline. We will let you know what happens next as soon as we receive any updates.

Members Only Webinar - Presentation Practice – January 2021
If you attended or watched our last members’ only webinar about the importance of building a personal online brand, you know how useful presenting on webinars can be. However, many people find the thought of doing this daunting. That is why we are holding a special webinar session to let you practise in a safe environment with fellow DAMA UK members. If this pilot session is useful we may do this for members on a more regular basis.
The session will be facilitated by two committee members with the format as follows:
This will be limited to 5 members only. The session will be recorded and shared with the attendees only after the session.
- You present on a data topic of your choosing for 5 minutes
- You receive feedback from everyone else on the webinar

Larry English - A short tribute
DAMA UK was saddened to hear of the death of the US consultant and author Larry English in October 2020. Larry was one of the very earliest pioneers of data quality and will be known to many DAMA members working in that discipline. His book ‘Improving Data Warehouse and Business Information’ is a classic of the genre and still widely read and referenced today. He was a great influence on many of us and played a key role in putting data quality on the corporate agenda.
Goodbye Larry and thanks. We wager he’s now busy sorting out the data quality problems in heaven.
And all that is left for us to say in 2020 Seasons Greetings and a happy and healthy New Year.
