September News from DAMA UK
As the summer draws to a close and autumn is almost upon us, we continue living and working in the ‘new’ normal. DATA has never been a more important, we have been busier than ever, our membership continues to grow and we continue to thrive in what has been and continues to be difficult times. This month we have new blogs, webinars and Community updates…
DAMA Northern Meetup 28 August 2020
Another positive virtual meetup of the DAMA Northern community was held on 28th August. We had a variety of people attend this session, with attendees from Natural Resources Wales, Northern Gas, the ORM foundation and the Financial Services sector joining us. We again shared our latest data news and data issues and provided some practical help to support each other.
The hot topics discussed this time included insight into data catalogues, data quality, data governance and making use of Microsoft Power BI assessment. We also discussed various ideas on how to further slice up customer / supplier data to get the agreement on ownership and stewardship needed.
Not a member of DAMA yet and want to attend our future events, starting on October 23rd? Find out how to join here: https://damauk.wildapricot.org/Join-us

CDMP Exam Fee Discount:
Throughout lockdown DAMA has been offering a 15% discount on fees for all CDMP exams. This has now been extended to the end of the calendar year (2020). Use the discount code “discount_15” as a voucher code in the online checkout.
DAMA UK CDMP Bootcamps:
The first virtual and highly discounted CDMP bootcamp for members only held on 1-3 September was completely sold out.
Spaces are still available for the next scheduled one 4–6 November 2020: https://www.dama-uk.org/event-3790234
These are held “virtually” using MS-Teams and are taught by Christopher Bradley, member of the UK DAMA Committee and DAMA-I VP Professional Development. Chris is one of only 3 Fellows of DAMA-I and has 40+ years of Data Management expertise & has achieved a great success rate for students attending his courses.
Other CDMP training classes:
Several other public CDMP training classes are available:
Additionally a DAMA-I approved, online, self-paced paced training course is available from DADATAVERSITY: https://www.dataversity.net/dmbok-and-cdmp-preparation-learning-plan/ A 20% discount is available using the code “dmadvisors”
For further information on the CDMP visit https://cdmp.info and for DAMA-I registered education providers https://dama.org/content/registered-education-providers
DMBoK1 CDMP Migration:
As seasoned data management professionals know, data migration represents a huge % of overall project time. This is true for us at DAMA-I regarding the migration of legacy DMBoK1 CDMP qualifications into the new certification environment. However, we’re now testing the migration approach and expect to roll out the first phase of migration late September (not late September back in 63). In summary, prior CDMP holders will be prompted to ensure that their DAMA Central membership is up to date (a pre-requisite for CDMP) and then will be invited to pass one or two (depending on prior certification level & date) of the new DMBoK2 examinations at a significantly reduced rate.
Allowable CDMP Substitute qualifications:
Announced in October 2019 and regularly at Presidents Council meetings and the DAMA-I website, the concept of “substitute” exams for CDMP ceased from 1st August 2020. Valid substitution requests approved prior to the cut-off remain valid.
