DAMA UK News
As we approach the end of the year, we are delighted to announce an important milestone. DAMA UK now has over 1,000 active members. In the year that saw the launch of the National Data Strategy data management has really become mainstream and the fact that so many people are turning to DAMA, looking for inspiration in the DMBoK and gaining the recognition offered by CDMP certification is evidence of this. Without you, our members, DAMA UK is nothing. As our membership continues to expand the network effect really starts to kick in. You each have access to a community of over a thousand like-minded professionals. How will you tap into your community next year?

Are you ready to take the stage?
Have you ever wanted to share your data management story to a wider audience, outside of your organisation, but not sure how to go about it? DAMA UK is here to help.
We have a number of opportunities available for people to present case studies as webinars on our DAMA channels and also, in person, at the IRM Data Governance and MDM conference in London in May 2022.
So, why would you take to the stage? Well, to raise your personal profile as a data management professional, certainly, but more importantly because people really want to hear stories from the coal face. There are plenty of books out there that talk to the ‘why’ and ‘how’ but the ‘what actually happened in practice’ is what we’re all interested in. What does it really take to be effective in this industry, ‘warts and all’, the ‘truth’ if you like.
IRM regularly survey the delegates at their conferences and the feedback is consistent: Experience has shown us that delegates have expressed a preference for how-to topics and case studies rather than theoretical or abstract topics. We would particularly like practitioners with interesting and real experiences to share – success stories, lessons learnt, challenges that have been overcome, pitfalls to avoid. If you are from a software, service provider or consulting firm, we value your industry expertise. However, delegates are looking for an end-user experience.
We have found exactly the same here at DAMA UK - the webinars that attract the biggest audiences (and are played back from the library) are delivered by practitioners.
But it can be quite nerve wracking:
- Will people be interested?
- I’m not an experienced presenter
- My slides are rubbish.
- What title do should I give my session so that it stands out?
The good news is that DAMA UK can assist with all of the above. If you’re interested in taking to the stage, please get in touch. We can provide coaching and peer review of content and we already run members only sessions on presentation skills. We’re constantly on the lookout for great topics for our DAMA webinars. However the deadline for submission for the in-person IRM MDM and DG conference is 31st December, but you only need to have your session outline ready by then – more details can be found here: https://irmuk.co.uk/speaker-guidelines-data-governance-conference-europe/
All thats left to say is the team at DAMA UK would like to wish you all a restful and enjoyable festive break and a happy and properous New Year!
