Committing to, and acting on sustainability in real estate

I recently had the pleasure of giving Ivanhoé Cambridge a voice at several forums in Canada and abroad where I reaffirmed our investment vision: to achieve carbon neutrality of our international portfolio by 2040, to have a significant and lasting impact on the communities where we invest and operate, and to establish best practices in corporate governance.

On the heels of several speaking engagements at GRI Europe, the Canadian Club Montreal and the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal, and with the humility and pride of receiving the Platinum Award for Outstanding Industry Contribution at the IPE Real Estate Global Conference & Awards ceremony, I travelled to Glasgow for COP26, where leaders from around the world gathered to look at effective ways of limiting global warming.

Whether discussing post-COVID trends, the evolving role of offices in defining brand and employee experiences or net-zero ambitions for the built to to-be-built environment, one thing permeates through all my conversations of the last months: change is here to stay in our industry and the opportunity and challenge to secure living, loving, learning, working, healing and enjoying spaces for generations to come lies with us.

As I return from COP26 lucid and optimistic, here are some thoughts on how we could come together around the real estate transition. I invite you to join us on this journey.
